The Controller is a newly created role for the organization and will report to the VP Finance. The successful candidate will be a CPA with audit experience from public accounting who has previously worked in a start-up environment as a Senior Manager of Accounting, Director or Controller, and is looking for a new opportunity with a fast growing, financially stable company.

Managing a team of four, the Controller will be a key player in the organization, and will support the VP Finance in accomplishing department and company MBOs. The Controller will be tasked with review of the current finance and accounting structure, identify risks in internal controls and processes, make recommendations for improvement, and implement change with the joint efforts of the accounting team.

The Candidate

Strong background in accounting with responsibilities for managing all of the day-to-day accounting and finance operations for a small to mid-sized company.
Exceptionally versed in financial statement preparation, GAAP, tax reporting and filing, General Ledger administration, cash flow management, and revenue recognition
Exceptional analytical and leadership skills, and leads by example
A proven track record of leading multi-disciplinary projects and successfully managing and implementing change within the organization
Thrives in a fast-paced environment and multi-tasks with ease

Responsibilities

Consult on streamlining accounting processes and creating efficiency throughout the department while preparing the accounting department for growth
Develop and manage budget to actual tracking and analysis
Monitor and analyze monthly operating expenditures against budget at line of business level
Evaluate the performance and profitability of each line of business and various business segments
Evaluate existing tax structure and assess needs regarding corporate taxation, tax audits, nexus determination and revenue apportionment
Prepare and work with external professionals to prepare tax returns and other regulatory filings
Develop and present monthly reporting and analysis, including key metrics reports
Establish Treasury function and support VP Finance with debt financing initiatives
Review and revise established policies and procedures to ensure all financial transactions are executed and documented according to generally accepted accounting principles
Improving, where necessary, the monthly closing and financial reporting process to ensure timely and accurate financial analysis and reporting company data
Serving as an unbiased internal management consultant / internal auditor
Become an architect for the future in regards to consolidations, M&A integration and company exit
Advise on G/L expansion / systems integration, and redefine G/L coding system / customer classification

Qualifications

Minimum 5-7+ years of significant progressive accounting and finance experience
Experience as a senior accounting professional in an Internet or technology company
Knowledge of on-line advertising and / or software licensing business models a plus
BA / BS in Accounting with CPA license, MBA desired
Must demonstrate excellence in working with and managing people throughout the organization
Must be a self-starter with high energy, with hands on experience, and willingness to roll-up sleeves
Detail oriented, but with ability to see the big picture and connect different disciplines
Must have desire to succeed in chosen career path and demonstrate ambition to develop career
Works well under pressure and meets tight deadlines with strong work ethic and initiative
Must embrace the concept of best practices and search for process improvement ideas
Strong PC and Microsoft Excel skills, experience with SAGE Platinum or similar product is a plus
