Overview
Advanced ICU Care, a progressive, collegial group of intensivists and nurses, is looking for experienced intensive care nurses to demonstrate leadership through the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of critical care patients in the eICU. Nursing care is provided to the patient through remote monitoring, with the goal of early detection of clinical deterioration. The eRN will be a member of a collaborative team responsible for providing tele-nursing care to a diverse population of critically ill adults across multiple ICUs at various hospitals. Responsibilities
Collects and analyzes patient and family data for the purpose of assessment, diagnosis and management.
Efficiently assembles a focused assessment of physiological, psychological and medical record data.
Uses critical thinking skills in diagnosing clinical problems and in defining interventions.
Re-evaluates prior diagnoses and care plans at appropriate intervals in accordance with expected patient outcomes.
Prioritizes clinical problems accurately and in a timely manner.
Uses VISICU's clinical decision support tool, The Source, in determining evidence-based practices for clinical problems.
Responds to routine, urgent and emergent patient problems appropriately by demonstrating effective decision-making. Provides follow-up to ensure problem resolution.
Advocates for patient and family needs and wishes with regard to health care.
Formulates and articulates succinct and comprehensive assessments of real or potential problems to the eICU intensivist.
Solves clinical patient problems independently and in a timely manner, communicates unresolved problems to the intensivist and assumes the intensivist's monitoring caseload until the situation is resolved.
Effectively communicates with members of the eICU Operations Center team and bedside ICU interdisciplinary team in a collegial manner to provide safe and error-free care. Provides courteous, enthusiastic phone communication to care givers at monitored ICUs.
Complies with best practices and other care directives of the monitored ICUs in response to performance improvement initiatives.
Prevents clinical problems from occurring by:
Direct observation via videoconferencing
Proactive surveillance of adverse physiological trends
Assurance of appropriately ordered prophylactic strategies
Medical chart review
Appropriate reaction to alarms
Updates ICU knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology, hemodynamics, bedside technology and nursing care.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Reports clinical, administrative or technical problems that result in medical errors, unsafe care or suboptimal communication.
Learns basic and advanced features of eCareManager clinical information software to enhance efficiency in assessment and documentation.
Uses Windows-based computer and web-based skills to enhance communication and educational growth.
Skill Requirements
Current RN state license.
A minimum of three years as a staff nurse in critical care; five years preferred.
Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.
Current ACLS and BLS healthcare provider completion card.
CCRN preferred or willingness to obtain.
Proficiency with Windows-based computer skills and operations.
Evidence of collaborative practice with physicians.
Evidence of effective communication skills.
