ABOUT THE COMPANY
Pathogenetix is seeking bright and enthusiastic software data analysts to work with a team of scientists and engineers to transition our product from alpha prototype to production. Following several years of development we are now commercializing an advanced instrument and assay system for food safety applications. PathoGenetix built this product leveraging a proprietary Genome Sequence Scanning (GSS) technology that employs single-molecule mapping of genomic DNA to identify a vast variety of microorganisms in complex mixtures. The Company is located in Woburn, MA.
GENERAL
The successful candidate should have a high interest and experience with analyzing complex scientific data, a background in science or life sciences and, preferably, industry experience. Software testing and QA experience would also be beneficial. The applicant will work with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists interpreting experiments with fluorescently tagged DNA fragments based on GSS technology.
The applicant should have high proficiency in working with Windows PC in general and with analytical scientific software specifically; be self-motivated to quickly learn in-house data analysis software and established data processing processes, and then progress to perform analyses of their own design using these software packages.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
?Equivalent of 2 or more years of experience involving scientific data analysis or scientific software QA
?B.S. / M.S. in Physics, Biophysics, Physical Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering or Computer Science with strong quantitative mathematical skills
SPECIFIC DUTIES
?Perform analysis on experimental data of DNA using the suite of existing data analysis software packages, develop an understanding of the classification algorithms and contribute to improving the algorithms and software
?Test new versions of in-house data collection and analysis software; provide feedback to developers and contribute insights on potential data analysis improvements
?Work with laboratory scientists to facilitate rapid experimental data analysis for further development of GSS technology and hardware
?Regularly present results of analysis at project meetings
?Software development opportunities available with experience
SKILLS REQUIRED
?Strong quantitative ability with an interest in characterizing complex experimental data
?Interest and ability to understand and learn the science of GSS technology (elements of bioinformatics, physics and molecular biology)
?Proficiency in using interactive data analysis and plotting software packages, e.g. MATLAB, Mathematica, Origin, Igor, MS Excel or similar
?Very self-motivated with a desire to learn by working with an excellent team of scientists and software developers
?Excellent communication skills in general and, specifically, in organizing, documenting and presenting analysis results
DESIRABLE SKILLS
Combinations of experience in the following areas may be advantageous:
?Experience with one or more scripting or compiled programming languages (Python, JavaScript, C++, C#)
?Signal processing and numerical analysis
?Pattern recognition and classification algorithms and statistics
?Bioinformatics and biological databases
