We are seeking a Data Architect, specializing in data warehousing, business intelligence, data analysis and performance tuning, to institute a database development process for managing and deploying database changes. As the Data Architect you will be responsible for the design and deployment of company wide mission critical databases for our voice applications platform. In this role, you will be part architect, part database designer and part developer, working with the appropriate personnel to ensure that all company application databases are secure, reliable, scalable, and dynamic to handle vast amounts of information, and keep operations running smoothly. Additionally, you be involved in understanding the company?s business objectives and aligning the information technology systems architecture to support these objectives. Responsibilities will include a concentration in the areas of design, architecture, practice consulting and optimization of all application database systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as Subject Matter Expert in the areas of (a) Database Design standards and processes including naming, conventions, capacity, accessibility, scalability, documentation, and (b) database architectural Standards ? specifically as it relates to security, availability, scalability, replication, storage, and configuration management.
Experienced in writing SQL queries, Stored Procedures, Views and ETL process and Reference Data Management.
Lead other Database Administrators and/or directly perform tasks related to the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support, of all of the Enterprise Database applications.
Develop and Maintain data lifecycle policies, including tiered retention, database backup and recovery procedures along with best practices for monitoring performance.
Work with internal and external consultants to understand business goals and priorities to participate in the development of a Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery plan.
Review Hardware/OS/Application specifications and requirements to provide appropriate recommendations.
Work with technical as well as end users to understand business requirements and identify database solutions.
Resolve problems with company application database systems.
Interface with vendors as needed for technical support and customizations when necessary.
Continue to improve upon the strategic and proactive direction for the firm?s enterprise database systems and applications.
Maintain separate development and testing environments to protect the production environment and to eliminate contention among the varied activities.
Maintain all database documentation and standards.
Provide 7-24 support when needed.
B.S. Degree in Computer Science or related field
10+ years experience in database design and development with proficiency in data center design and administration in a production data center environment
Project planning and estimation experience
Data Warehouse and Data Architecture Skills:
Data modeling, schema design
ETL process development
Practical experience implementing data warehouse architectures
Experience with data warehouse front-end and reporting tools
Experience with database sizing, server specification, network architecture specification
Data migration experience
Design and architecture for high availability, redundancy and fault tolerance
Database and Operating System Skills:
PostgreSQL (8.x, 9.x), SLONY
Red Hat Linux
Programming and Development Skills:
Database development experience using Java and Hibernate
Experience designing databases for various business needs
Experience with Revision Control and Change Management tools
Scripting experience using Perl, Python, bash
