The Data Engineer develops applications to harvest data and creates processes to provide new unique data sources to internal and external customers. This position will build automated web processes, interfaces to data sources, data exports, and provide integrations with internal and external web services.
Minimum Requirements
Education
oBS in Computer Science or equivalent experience in a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Experience, or Characteristics
o3 years of system integration or engineering inclusive of programming, systems analysis and interface design/implementation of client/server applications.
oStrong scripting experience with Ruby or other languages such as Python, Perl, or PHP
oStrong data experience.
oExperience with Linux.
oExperience with extract, transform, and load (ETL) process.
oProficient with SQL.
oExperience with XML.
oFamiliar with HTML, JavaScript, and AJAX.
Helpful / Preferred
oExperience with NoSQL databases.
oExperience with XSLT and JSON.
oExperience with Restful web services.
oExperience with reverse engineering complex data sources.
Functions and Responsibilities (?in addition to other duties as assigned)
1.Designs and develops automated web processes to navigate, parse and harvest new unique data sources.
2.Ability to create ETL processes to handle large data sets.
3.Designs and implements interfaces to data sources by analyzing requirements, reverse engineering complex data sources, and developing solutions.
4.Create adapters to transform data to other formats.
5.Participates in the development of automation solutions.
6.Provides problem solving technical expertise in design, development, testing and deployment of applications.
7.Creates and maintains documentation of development efforts, including development code and testing results.
8.Works closely with Project Manager to ensure project delivery dates meet installation timeframe.
9.Resolves logical and procedural issues that arise in development cycle.
10.Understands and follows internal processes and procedures, and suggests improvements or issues with stated policy and procedures, inclusive of technical standards.
11.Communicates effectively with customers, vendors, and members of the team.
12.Keeps apprised of new developments in the technology field; applies new technologies to improve products and services.
