The ideal engineer will:
- Utilize her/his programming skills and knowledge to put Data Warehouse, ETL/ELT designs into use
- Ability to mentally and programmatically unravel complex problems and solve edge cases quickly
- Draw on her/his knowledge of data modeling techniques to build cutting-edge solutions capable of responding to Gilt Groupe's fast pace of business.
- Apply knowledge of database and distributed computational systems to ensure maximum performance of developed applications.
- Have a strong desire to formulate new and creative ways of building applications in a fast-paced environment with a high rate of change.
- Draw on communication skills to cohesively describe and document systems, providing technical guidance where necessary.
Responsibilities:
Design, build and integrate internal Data Warehouse schemas and associated data stores and data marts
Interface with the business and other technical groups to describe the data and its relationships
Analyze and interpret requirements for logical and physical data models in order to design, and develop data storage strategies/techniques
Implement new tools and methodologies to optimize information design in order to:
Optimize Business Intelligence tool performance
Optimize the ETL/ELT processing and analysis of data into information
Ensure data standards are reused and enforced across all data-driven initiatives
Maintain order and accuracy in Data Warehouse environment
Create and manage ETL/ELT functions, entity relationship diagrams, data dictionaries, and mapping documents
Create and maintain documentation related to the company operational business systems
Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with end-to-end ETL development and implementation
Expert database knowledge and SQL skills (i.e., Aster/Postgre experience)
Experience in a variety of software development languages using Java, Scala
Familiarity with Map Reduce (i.e., Hadoop)
Familiarity with machine learning techniques
Expertise in federated, hybrid-federated, normalized, and de-normalized data warehouse designs (i.e. Inmon, Kimball)
Experience/familiarity with reporting tools such as Cognos and Spotfire
Experience in online retail marketing/finance
Understanding of distributed systems performance
Familiarity with Linux/Solaris systems
Excellent strategic & business thinking skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Computer Science or similar degree preferred
