DescriptionThe Analytics Department provides a central lab for statistical analysis, machine learning, and distributed computing. Its primary function is to service business needs throughout the rest of our company for targeted consumer advertising. We have a mission to deliver high quality, timely analysis, distill real business insights from large data sets, and provide scalable analytics for the rest of the company on demand. In addition, we assist on studies, metrics, data visualization, system architecture, etc., in other areas of our business.
To support our products the Adknowledge infrastructure consists of:
Large terabytes of data housed in Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Greenplum;
500+ Linux servers;
LAMP based platform mixed with some C, C++, Oracle, and JAVA.
A cloud running Hadoop, DHT, and other distributed services.
An advanced behavioral-targeting system running billions of calculations per day using consumer behaviors to predict what type of ad is most likely to trigger a response.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Data Platform Engineer will be instrumental in driving analytic changes with large implications for Adknowledge revenue. Primary duties for the Software Engineer consist of:
Analysis: Provide engineering support to quantitative analysts work within a very large dataset (?big data?) of consumer behavior in the online marketing industry.
Solutions: Build web services to provide data summaries and tools to other areas of the organization. Build ETL processes for bringing in data from the rest of the organization into a data warehouse.
Troubleshooting: Analyze and troubleshoot our databases, proprietary user reconciliation technology, and other proprietary systems
Implementation: Serve as a technical resource for the statisticians in establishing appropriate data storage, retrieval, and dissemination methodologies.
CANDIDATE OVERVIEW
The successful candidate will be a vital addition to the team with at least:
3-5 years software engineering experience in the internet industry in a -nix environment;
Experience with multiple languages; Perl, PHP, Python, Java as well as understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each;
Experience interfacing with RDBMS systems (Oracle, MySQL, Postgres) using SQL;
Experience in distributed computing, e.g. MapReduce, Hadoop, AWS, DHTs, etc.
Industry experience working with very large datasets (?big data?).
Degree in Computer Science, or related areas. Equivalent work experience is also acceptable.
