Who we're looking for
You love data. You are a deeply rational thinker. You are a good communicator and a superlative learner. You like getting things done. You like the idea of using your proven data science skill to tackle complex, fascinating problems that will affect millions of people?s search for...love.
As a key member of a small data science team, you'll be directly responsible for addressing problems like:
which users should a given user see, and when?
what about a user?s profile is most likely to garner attention?
what product experience is most likely to lead to key behaviors, and how does this vary by user characteristics?
what should our next multivariate test be?
what is the value of a lead from a specific paid traffic source?
Market and network effects give our problems a higher degree of difficulty: a change to one user's experience has secondary - and often dramatic - effects on everyone in their dating pool.
The right candidate has demonstrated these characteristics, ideally in a professional environment:
mathematical ability, especially the ability to produce and evaluate statistical evidence
ability to work independently and learn-by-doing
communication skills, especially the ability to concisely summarize analytical results and takeaways
ability to think about product and actual users
creativity and analytical thinking skills (e.g. thinking up features to include in a model)
The right candidate can speak fluently about the following statistical techniques/concepts, and ideally has experience applying them to real-world problems:
predictive modeling beyond regression
bias vs. variance
parametric and nonparametric tests of significance (for evaluating A/B tests)
recommenders - collaborative filtering and content based
The right candidate has experience with the following tools:
python (primarily for manipulation and automation, but pandas/scikit a plus)
R for analysis and visualization (ggplot2)
web visualization (d3.js) - much less important, but nice to have
Ten Paid Holidays ? Our office closes for all standard paid holidays.
Fifteen PTO Days ? We encourage all team members to take vacation and recharge.
Food & Drink ? Stocked fridge, some team meals, etc.
