THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED The HMS Data Scientist is a key member of the HMS Professional Services Data team responsible for the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the HMS Provider MasterFile?. The Data Scientist is responsible for developing the methodologies required to build new and enhance existing products. To accomplish these objectives, he or she will analyze potential data sources; develop and test algorithms, prototypes and technical specifications that will be utilized to build our commercial products. In addition to developing and maintaining the HMS Provider MasterFile?, the Data Scientist will also be responsible for transitioning components to our new technology platform. To be successful in this role the candidate must understand the business value of HMS? solution and the impact design decisions will have on the usability, quality and value of the product.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Develop and tests algorithms, prototypes and technical specifications that will be used for new products and product extensions built on our new platform.
Analyze the impact new data sources will have on product quality; periodically assess the quality and impact of continuing to utilize existing sources. Publishes results and recommendations for changes.
Analyzes data quality issues; identifies root cause and remedies
Assists Client Services with responses to client questions, issues and requests.
Works with Scrum teams to develop and maintain project schedule; defines scope and estimates the level of effort to assist with release management. Provides periodic status updates throughout the project lifecycle, including risk escalation and problem resolution management.
Analyze large data sets using scripting and query tools as needed
Assist QA team with performing functional testing and ensuring that test results meet defined acceptance and business objectives
Assists with the transition of products to operations; provides training and written documentation.

Strong general technical ability, including proficiency in:
Linux and/or Unix style OS
Scripting languages such as Ruby and Perl
Version control systems such as SVN and Git
SQL and/or PL/SQL
Scrum or other iterative development methodology
Strong analytical skills including analysis, data collection, process mapping and troubleshooting for root cause
Exposure to NoSQL databases such as Cassandra a plus
BA/BS degree required (specialization in information technology or computer science preferred)
Experience with a scripting language such as Ruby or Perl a plus
Data management experience a plus
