Overview:
The Data Warehousing Engineer will help build and maintain critical infrastructure for our multi-petabyte data warehouse. This software engineering role at Linden Lab contributes to the organization's success through expertise in analytical application development, data warehouse design, and ETL. Qualified individuals will have a passion for the challenges of big data and information analysis combined with a mastery of SQL, strong relational and dimensional modeling skills, and the desire to help build new big data infrastructure using Netezza alongside nosql options like Hadoop, Cassandra, and MongoDB.
Responsibilities:
Warehouse Design - Work with analysts, operations team and engineering teams to implement a solid, extensible warehouse design that supports new and existing analytic requirements.
Warehouse ETL - Build and maintain code to populate Netezza, MySQL, and distributed data stores with data loaded from production web and virtual world systems. Perform all necessary data transformations to populate data into a warehouse table structure that is optimized for reporting.
On-going Warehouse Maintenance - Quickly assess the impact of production system changes to existing analytics and implement changes to the warehouse ETL and reporting code to ensure consistent and accurate reporting.
Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Solid understanding of Data Warehouse data modeling and architecture.
Strong knowledge of SQL optimization, index design, and working with large data.
Experience working with ETL and data warehousing job management tools.
Solid coding background including proficiency in Linux and shell scripting. Experience with coding in Python and/or Java, or strong skills in a similar language.
Ability to work in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment on exciting problems.
Possess strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively QA own work product to make sure that warehouse data is complete and accurate.
Exceptional problem solving and communication skills.
Education and Experience:
4+ years experience working extensively with SQL. (Mastery of SQL and relational concepts).
Experience with the design and implementation of ETL tools and applications that populate large relational data warehouse environments (with tables that contain millions of rows).
Experience with Mysql and/or Netezza is a plus.
Experience with MicroStrategy and/or Google Analytics API is a plus.
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or an analytic discipline.
