The Database Administrator works with software vendors on the implementation and continued support of application databases.
The incumbent also designs data base applications to specifications provided by higher level staff, tests, corrects, monitors, and updates developed applications. Also works with operations staff on performances and tuning analysis, systems support and optimization, as well as provides technical assistance to applications developers.
In addition, this individual sets up backup and recovery procedures for data bases and controls access to data in physical data base designs for both privacy and security.
Roles and Responsibilities
The essential responsibilities of the Database Administrator are to:
?Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
?Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
?Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities.
?Design and document database architecture. Data Modeling.
?Design Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence platform.
?Build database scheme, tables, procedures and permissions.
?Set up data sharing and disk partitioning.
?Develop database utilities and automated reporting.
?Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failover.
?Provide 24/7 support for critical situations.
?Implement security and encryption.
?Install and test upgrades and patches.
?Restore and recover corrupted databases.
?A BS/BA Degree Computer Science/ Information Systems or equivalent work experience.
?3 years Oracle / DB2 / SQL Server database development and administration design of OLTP systems,relational database design, data modeling tools, creation of databases using complex structures, complex data loads and migrations,complex data migrations and manipulation using SQL, develop and deploy backup/restore strategies, and monitoring and performance tuning databases.
?Experience in design of OLTP systems.
?Experience in relational database design.
?Experience using data modeling tools.
?Ability to perform complex DBA tasks, including creating databases using complex structures, ensuring data security and integrity, and performing complex data loads and migrations.
?Experience doing complex data migrations and manipulation using SQL.
?Must be able to develop and deploy backup/restore strategies.
?Experience monitoring and performance tuning databases.
?Must be able to coordinate and participate in large database projects.
Skills/ Experience Preferred:
?Experience in OLAP and Data Warehousing database architectures.
?Experience with N-tiered or Internet applications.
?Experience using DB2.
?Experience with design tools such as Embarcadero?s DBArtisan and ER Studio.
?Knowledge of the insurance industry.
