SummarySendMe, the fastest growing direct to consumer mobile start-up in the US, is looking for an experienced Database Administrator to join our Technology Operations Team.
This position will report to the VP of Technology Operations providing database administration and support for our production and development databases to ensure a highly scalable and reliable PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server database environments for high volume mobile and web-based applications.
The right candidate will have proven success in managing PostgreSQL/MS SQL databases and will thrive in an energetic, fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
As of part of the TechOps team to provide 1st level 24x7 production support of our production databases. Be flexible and available to work shifts that may be outside of standard business hours.
Ensuring and proactively monitoring availability and performance of the production databases
Performance tuning: review and analyze production DB logs/performance analysis reports; make recommendations relating to performance and efficiency of application SQLs, data storage and processing.
Troubleshooting and problem solving support for database related issues.
Backup and recovery of production databases ensuring minimum downtime and 100 recoverability.
Improvement and maintenance of the high availability database solutions including standby database and replication.
Managing database Change Management to production database including coordination and testing of all database changes.
Implement and maintain data archive/purge strategy and solution for large tables
Support and improvement for current ETL processes to provide near real-time data integration between production and data warehouse database environments
Supporting software development process including SQLs review to ensure optimized SQLs released to production and general DBA support for development and QA database environments.
Develop and document appropriate database standards, policies, and procedures to enable standardization, ensure integrity, and promote accountability
Requirements
MUST HAVE A BACHELOR'S DEGREE, preferably in MIS/CIS
Minimum of 4 years of experience as a DBA of PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server or Oracle
Expert DBA knowledge and experience with PostgresSQL and MS SQL Server are preferable.
Knowledge of relational database logical modeling and physical design for OLTP/OLAP systems.
Ability to understand and write complex SQL queries
Experience working with large storage environments, preferably EMC, including SAN and NAS interconnects and switching is a plus
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to verbalize or express complex technical concepts effectively verbally and in writing
