Database Administrator (Greenplum or other MPP DB)
Operational Support -
- A. Proactively monitor both database and supporting hardware to ensure system health
B. Take accountability for the availability and accuracy of data warehouse data.
Investigate and assist in the resolution of any day-to-day warehouse issues.
C. Plan and coordinate system upgrades.
Perform capacity planning, monitoring, and managing using different Greenplum tools such as gpperfmon, etc.
D. Support backup and recovery functions for a Greenplum data warehouse environment
E. Ability to be part of an on-call rotation during nights and weekends to provide system support of a 24x7 environment
F. Administer database best practices and follow them through day to day challenges as needed
G. Required to follow change management ITIL processes
Data Analysis & Architecture-
A. Work with modelers, architects and ETL analysts to determine the appropriate physical data architecture, including table layouts, Indexes, data storage schemes, etc.
B. Work closely with the technical and business users to manage Greenplum workload, storage etc.
C. Collaborate with Business Intelligence, CRM, and other technology teams to implement leading edge solutions on the Greenplum data warehouse
D. Develop standards specific to the data warehouse application design, monitoring, backup and recovery
E. Conduct technical reviews and Walkthroughs of system design documentation with development and design team members.
F. Develop and execute test plans and play an active role in project rollouts.
1. 3+ years of experience in databases, and 3+ years of experience data warehouse database administration including system-wide performance monitoring and tuning, business continuity planning, capacity planning, hardware and software upgrade planning and implementation, utilities, backup and
2. 3+ years of experience and understanding of the best practices for combining strengths of database and ETL tools to optimize data movement into, out of and within the data warehouse
o 3. 3+ years of experience and understanding of the best practices for combining strengths of database and BI/Reporting tools to optimize BI Tool?s performance
o 4. 3+ years of experience and knowledge in high performance, large scale computing environments. Demonstrated ability to perform in demanding multi-task environment.
o 5. 3+ years of experience and ability to configure and manage a Unix/Linux Server environment for database systems, including strong shell-scripting of bash and/or korn skills and comfort with OS-level operations.
o 6. 2+ years of experience in Greenplum or Netezza or Vertica or VLDB MPP database platform and utilities is preferred.
o 7. 3+ years of experience and exposure to Open-Source technologies and interest in learning new technologies is preferred
o 8. 3+ years of experience and familiarity with SOX/PCI standards is preferred
o 9. 3+ years of experience with 100% uptime environment. Degree in Computer Science or related technical or scientific degree or related, equivalent experience.
o 10. 3+ years of experience with maintaining a Linux/Unix based production data warehouse and OS environment
o 11. Candidate must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, excellent analytical skills, and flexibility in approach, ability to plan and organize work, responsiveness, creativity, and ability to provide leadership to a group amidst uncertainty.
o 12. Strong business acumen and interpersonal skill with team based orientation.
o 13. Previous experience in a senior role within a DBA team is required
