Job Summary:
The Global Database Administrator (GDBA) will participate as part of a highly-focused 24/7 support team with responsibility for supporting ten data-center nodes that comprise a newly-deployed mission critical application environment. The support team will be responsible for day-to-day proactive administration and operational support for the server and application environments with the objective of 100% application uptime. The GDBA will manage administration of Oracle Golden Gate functions for security access, new release and patch installation, and will provide maintenance for all nodes. The GDBA will be heavily involved in customer relations and team business decisions. The GDBA will possess a broad background in technology combined with strong collaboration and teamwork capabilities.
The technical components of the client?s mission critical environment include:
IBM DB2 for Linux OS (UDB)
Stratus hardware and storage arrays
Red Hat Linux and security controls
ftServer system software
Oracle enterprise database technology
Enterprise management tools
Performance monitoring and capacity planning tools
ITIL, Six Sigma, and Cobit best practices and quality management processes
Tools / utilities for operations
Qualifications:
BS technical degree or equivalent.
6+ years of experience in Oracle database administration, including versions 9i, 10g and 11g.
Demonstrated proficiency with Golden Gate.
Experience in managing both development and production database environments.
Proven track record in DB performance management and high-priority troubleshooting.
Current, proven, in-depth technical skills in computer systems, preferably Linux.
Participation in scheduled after-hours rotations and availability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
High degree of verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively communicate with remote peers in various time zones.
Strong client-facing customer service skills.
Proactive sense of urgency in resolving problems and preventing recurrence.
Desired Experience:
Experience supporting mission critical Oracle 9i, 10g, 11g environments.
Oracle Database Certified Professional, Oracle Database Certified Associate.
Demonstrated ability to proactively drive automation and optimization of DB environments.
Experience with implementing service management best practices based on ITIL, Six Sigma or COBIT.
Familiarity with performance and stress testing.
Familiarity with DR approaches and crisis preparedness.
Software experience in RedHat Linux.
Experience with 24/7 follow-the-sun support models.
