The role of the Database Administrator is to improve Freighquote's performance through analysis of existing business problems and development of future plans supporting a Microsoft SQL Server environment. The DBA is responsible for assisting with coordinating, testing, and implement changes to the database environment. The DBA should provide technical expertise in SQL Server including performance analysis, tuning, system setup, resource (e.g. I/O, CPU, memory) bottleneck identification/elimination, security, maintenance, setting standards, and logical/physical database design. The DBA should maintain current knowledge of SQL Server features, pitfalls, and online resources. The DBA will need to assist with the reviewing and developing of project requirements for the database and assist with the implementation of those projects. The DBA will provide technical assistance in planning and implementing strategic technology initiatives including SQL version updates, implementation of third party tools where appropriate, and supporting computing platform upgrades.
Install, manage, and maintain all databases in our enterprise environment. This includes tuning the database structures for performance and service levels expected within an online transaction processing solution.
Write, test, and maintain batch oriented jobs as a SQL developer. Also provide SQL coding focused database development coding assistance to the Application Developers.
Work with functional business units to define and analyze the needs of their units and architect the system standards to support them.
Work with System/Network Administrators to develop and maintain the replication, backup, and restoration of data within the system.
Interact with Application Developers and Quality Analysts to provide understanding of requirements and designs, and to assist the Quality Analysts with customer testing and approval of software before it is deployed, so that it may be delivered on time.
Develop custom queries and reports for data modeling through various tool sets to aggregate, analyze, and report results
Maintain clustered, highly redundant environments with SLA targets of 99.99%
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or compensatory experience
2-5 years of experience in database administration
The DBA needs to have experience administrating and installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008/2008R2/2012. They must possess T-SQL knowledge; including the creation of stored procedures, views, triggers, functions, and tables. The DBA should have an understanding of replication and HA concepts. They should have strong written and verbal communication skills. The DBA must be able to prioritize their workload as well as follow priorities provided by others. They must be able to work in a team environment and mentor others. An understanding of .NET development, Windows 2008 Server, and storage platforms are a plus.
