The Database Administrator/Release Engineer will plan, engineer, build, administer, manage and monitor all databases and database services. In addition, he or she will also be involved in product builds and deployments to both staging and production systems.
He or she will be part of a team responsible for managing Oracle and MySQL database systems and will work with Engineers to optimize SQL. In addition, strong knowledge of linux and shell scripting is required in order to perform release management tasks.
This position requires strong oral and written communication skills. There will be on-call responsibilities based on a rotating schedule.
This is a new position at Healthline. The office is located in San Francisco, near the Ball Park and one block from Cal Train.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, implement, and maintain existing and new Oracle and MySQL databases
Perform regular product releases as part of a team
Performs capacity management and performance planning
Assists with application support/optimization where appropriate, and problem resolution tracking and upgrades
Responsible for testing and debugging of problems in current running applications
Report creation, generation, and automation
Knowledge/Skills & Abilities
Oracle DBA certification desirable, but not required
Oracle RAC installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting experience; comfortable with Oracle Data Guard
Thorough knowledge of Java/JDBC best practices and common problems
Experience working with terabyte scale data sets
Solid experience with Unix and/or Linux system administration
Strong knowledge of techniques for optimizing load times on large volume datasets
Experience writing and maintaining bash scripts (other scripting language an added plus, but not required)
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work closely with users, external vendors, and as part of cross-functional teams
Willingness to provide off-hours on-call support, as well as out-of-band
Education
BS/MS in Computer Science or related technical discipline
DBA certification preferred but not required
