Description
We're looking for a world-class data architect and database administrator. We need someone who is curious about big data problems and excited about Digg and its future. You must know when to denormalize your data, when to store it, whether to use SQL or NoSQL, and when to use flat files. You will work alongside systems administrators and operations engineers.
Responsibilities
Report to and work closely with an elite team of systems administrators and operations engineers
Partner and collaborate with outstanding Developers
Determine when to denormalize data, store it, use SQL or NoSQL, and when to use flat files
Qualifications
Extensive experience as a Database Administrator
Extensive experience with Unix/Linux, MySQL
Experience in a high-volume data environment and large cluster environment
Intimate familiarity with typical CS algorithms
Familiarity with and deep interest in NoSQL databases
Familiarity with Map/Reduce programming methodology
Ability to carry a pager and be available 24x7
A sense of humor and an unflappable demeanor
Python, BASH, and/or Perl scripting skills (in that order)
Experience with Cassandra, Hadoop Hive, Redis
Experience working in an engineering organization.
Experience with data warehousing technologies.
Experience with fulltext searching technologies.
Familiarity with alerting and monitoring systems and best practices.
Familiarity with Puppet or other configuration management systems.
Experience coding Erlang, Java, C, C++.
Experience with Riak, CouchDB, MongoDB, Hypertable, HBase, Voldemort, MemcacheDB, Tokyo Tyrant, etc.
BS/CS or equivalent experience.
