Job Description:

At WideOrbit, we know that a DBA's real role is a creative one, and we have plenty of opportunity to let your visions and ideas come to light. You'll be responsible for thinking up innovative ways to improve performance and scalability. You'll work directly with our customers to ensure optimum configuration of our products within their environments.
You should be comfortable with direct interaction with customers, coordinating with internal resources, multi-tasking, fast turnaround of deliverables, designing and prototyping, and taking the lead where needed.
Responsibilities:
Work with colleagues in managing the WideOrbit database servers. The servers provide mission-critical ERP solutions at a high-availability data center for WideOrbit and WideOrbit-hosted client systems.
Ensure that WideOrbit meets client Service Level Agreements
Ensure security of systems
Design, deploy or recommend, and support SQL Server OLTP hardware configurations to optimize price and performance for WideOrbit clients based on recommendations from development.
Troubleshoot SQL Server performance issues for hosted clients and client-managed servers.
Design and test SQL Server operational procedures for use by external clients with a focus on performance and business continuance planning.
Provide documentation and training expertise.
Here?s what we?re looking for:
5+ years of IT-related experience required, including a minimum of 3 years working with Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008/2008R2. Familiarity with new features of SQL Server 2012.
Expertise in and hands-on experience using performance counters and industry best practices to specify optimal OLTP hardware for Microsoft SQL Server.
Strong grasp of mission critical database operational procedures including log shipping and data mirroring.
Mastery of T-SQL, T-SQL query performance tuning and SQL Profiler, and all SQL Server tools.
Extensive experience investigating poor performing SQL statements or server configurations using techniques such as updating statistics to improve performance between ERP software updates.
Experience in designing and supporting highly available SQL Server hardware.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and customer service skills dealing with both internal and external customers
Familiarity with different IO sub-systems such as SANs, external SCSI enclosures, etc.
