THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED
Ruckus Wireless is seeking to hire a Deputy General Counsel of Intellectual Property. Reporting directly to Ruckus? General Counsel, the successful candidate will lead our IP strategy worldwide. The position will be based at Ruckus? headquarters in Sunnyvale, California.
This is a high-level, strategic position at Ruckus. We?re a company founded on great intellectual property. We?re proud of our patent portfolio (the plaques are in the lobby) and our brand. We believe we are the technology leader in our space and we intend to keep it that way. That is why it is critically important to us to find a visionary that can lead the development, protection and commercialization of our IP.
Your responsibilities will include the following:
Patent landscape assessment necessary to drive decision making about portfolio development and IP strategy.
Patent strategy development and implementation based on the IP landscape and the company?s business priorities and direction. You will be the centerpiece in a high-powered collective of our General Counsel, outside counsel, and senior technology and business leaders to develop the plan. Then you will be charged with its execution.
Develop, implement and manage a smart patent development program across our internationally dispersed development centers.
Patent acquisitions and in-bound licensing to augment our own internally developed portfolio as necessary to achieve our strategy.
Draft and negotiate IP-specific agreements or support portions of transactions, including M&A, joint development and licensing agreements.
Determine a strategy to defend us and our customers and partners that we indemnify against legitimate and not-so legitimate infringement claims. Then manage the defense of those claims.
Strategically enforce our intellectual property rights, including licensing and litigation if necessary.
Protect our brand globally, including through trademark and domain name registrations and advising our partners on how to use our brand effectively.
Counsel our engineering teams on IP issues associated with standards body participation.
We know you need to be good to accomplish all that. The person we?re looking for looks like this:
J.D. with 15+ years of professional experience.
Outstanding academic and professional credentials, including a J.D. from a top law school and experience with a first-rate law firm in addition to in-house experience.
You are really smart, but don?t feel the need to make a point of it.
Excellent legal skills. You write well. You speak well. You think brilliantly.
You can execute well, but can also think creatively and strategically, seeing the big picture.
You have good business judgment. You understand that our job as lawyers is to enable business growth while protecting the assets we obtain through that growth.
Experience in patent drafting and global prosecution.
Experience in defending patent suits and creatively protecting and enforcing your portfolio.
A keen understanding of NPEs and thoughts on how to protect the company?s business operations from them.
Experience in the wireless communications industry is a definite plus.
Why do we think someone with that kind of talent will come here? Because our colleagues have that kind of talent. We thrive on delivering results through high performing teams. We are indeed making a ruckus with enterprises that care about performance and ease of deployment of their Wi-Fi networks, and with carriers around the world looking for cost-effective and best-in-class solutions for wireless offload of their 3G/4G/LTE networks. If you believe in that too, then come help build a best-in-class legal department.
