Details: This is a full-time, in-office job.
The Design Production Manager is responsible for the daily deliverables of a team of designers by assigning projects, balancing workload, and collaborating with the editor in chief, creative director, and internal stakeholders VP Tech, Client Services heads to execute design needs across all deliverables.
The Design Production Manager's primary responsibilities include:
Manage a team of staff and freelance designers with varying degrees of experience.
Create, track, update detailed job schedules based on client deadlines and internal workflow using thorough knowledge of design process from concept to deliverable.
Assign and balance production design team workload, identify areas for efficiency.
Proactively remind internal clients and designers of upcoming due dates.
Track and maintain progress via internal job management software daily.
Manage workflow of 25-50 jobs simultaneously.
Work with internal teams - Client Services, Editorial, Events, Network, Sales, Tech - to assure quality standards are met.
Resolve executional issues, review final work for compliance of brand, typography & guidelines, ensure distribution to internal and external partners.
Recruit and train freelance designers as needed; provide orientation and functional training for new team members.
Research and recommend tools and process changes to improve quality and increase efficiency.
The ideal candidate will show:
Excellent project management skills, including, but not limited to, tracking projects in Basecamp.
Demonstrated proficiency in the elements of design for the web, including website and online ad design.
Thorough understanding of the formal elements of design, including typography, layout, balance, proportion, rhythm, emphasis and unity.
Excellent skills with design software, including, but not limited to, Photoshop.
Solid understanding of the technical side of web development, including working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, iOS and other technologies, and how design will be implemented functionally.
Ability to articulate ideas in a manner that is clearly understood by all stakeholders.
Excellent organization, mentoring, communication, collaboration skills.
Professional desire to deliver quality design at high volume in a tight timeframe.
Ability to think conceptually and creatively.
Required Skills and Experience:
3 years management experience.
5-7 years; work experience in web design.
