Description:
This at-will position designs and manages the desktop system?s hardware and software environment. The Desktop Engineer?s role is to optimize Windows desktop environment to achieve high availability, increased performance, lower support costs, and increased usability of the various business applications supported at the desktop. This is to be accomplished by developing and maintaining desktop hardware and software standards along with developing efficient support processes that will increase system availability while reducing support costs. This includes designing, installing, configuring, administering, and fine-tuning desktop hardware, Windows operating systems, and desktop applications in a timely and efficient manner. Adheres to company mission and statements.
Job Duties
Essential -
? Create Windows-based workstations hardware and software standards, and use policies.
? Participate in the design and review of new desktop hardware, Windows operating systems, and Windows application deployments on the workstations.
? Develop processes to manage the desktop lifecycle.
? Lead, coordinate, and participate in key process improvements for all desktop environments throughout the organization.
? Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and first level support staff to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of desktop systems to meet corporate objectives.
? Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems, including end user desktop PCs, printers, scanners, etc.
? Ensure that Windows-based workstations comply with established policies, standards, licensing agreements, and configuration guidelines.
? Monitor and test system performance; provide statistics and reports.
? Recommend and execute modifications to Windows desktop systems in order to improve efficiency, reliability, and performance.
? Establish and implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure Windows desktop system security.
? Conduct research on Windows-related hardware and software in support of procurement and system development efforts.
? Review and deploy new Windows service packs, hot fixes, system updates, and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices.
? Develop and maintain Windows training materials and systems documentation for educating end users and new IT staff.
? Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
? Resolve client?s PC equipment failures and hardware related problems
? Create and maintain desktop software image
? Management desktop software deployment environment

Experience
Skills:
Essential -
? Specific knowledge of Microsoft 2000 & XP Windows platform(s) required.
? Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows 2000, XP
? Experienced in Active Directory migration, setup, and implementation.
? Working technical knowledge of Microsoft SMS for deployment of software.
? Extensive application support experience with MS Office products.
? Strong familiarity with DNS and TCP/IP networking.
? Strong knowledge of popular Windows PC software programs, including, Adobe Acrobat, Internet Explorer, and so on.
? Good technical knowledge of current network hardware and standards.
? Hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
? Good written and oral communication skills.
? Good interpersonal skills.
? Ability to conduct research into Windows issues and products as required.
? Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
? Highly self motivated and directed.
? Keen attention to detail.
? Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Abilities:
Essential -
? Windows system and application software image creation and deployment.
? Installation, configuration and use of Windows System Management Server to deploy software patches and applications.
? Experience in desktop hardware, Windows system, desktop software application troubleshooting, and project design and implementation
? On-call or after hours availability.
? Sitting for extended periods of time.
? Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.
? Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
? Some off-site travel may be required to administer remote users and/or satellite offices.
? Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet project time lines

Education
Experience & Education:
Essential-
? College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science or related field.
? 3-5 years work experience.
Non-essential -
? MCSE Certification
