Our open DevOps Engineer role:
- As a member of our DevOps team, you'll act as part software developer, part system architect, part release engineer, and part operations engineer.
- Automation, configuration management, and building infrastructure to support high traffic volumes and extensive datasets across the social and mobile spectrum.
- Enhance the infrastructure to support the applications and API services effectively.
- Build GIS or spatially enabled data stores and techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Build GIS or spatially enabled data stores and innovative solutions to work with big data.
- Work with system engineers and developers on performance tuning and optimization, query optimization, index tuning, caching, buffer tuning, etc.
- Architecting, designing and implementing core services, processes and technologies that provide reliability, high availability, performance and scalability for creation, access, caching and lifecycle of data objects and entities.
- Monitor load, usage, and availability metrics and provide proactive reporting of trends and potential problems
Essentials:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent production experience)
- Experience with PostGIS and/or other open source GIS technologies: Shapely, GEOS, PROJ.4, Openlayers
- Practical DBA skills, specifically MySQL 5.1+ (or PostgreSQL)
- Skilled with source control (git), testing, and production deployment techniques
- Command of one or more programming languages (Python/Django, Ruby, Perl, etc)
- Comfortable with small- and medium-scale server clusters
- Ability to adapt quickly, pivot, and context switch as needed in a fast paced (Agile, XP) environment
- Strong desire to be an essential and integral part of a tight team.
- 3-500 years of experience
Bonus Points:
- Cloud computing or distributed processing
- Production NoSQL experience, specifically MongoDB
- End-to-end storage system administration
- Hardware and software tuning
- Familiarity and comfort level with Agile Development (read XP)
- Writing low-level extensions (in C, et cetera) to avoid performance bottlenecks
- Linux system administration and maintenance expertise
