Our DevOps Engineer is a mission critical position within our team with responsibility for ensuring our users have a flawless experience at all times.
This position provides the backbone of StumbleUpon's services. During implementation, you will work closely with the development, quality and engineering teams to ensure that our software can be effortlessly deployed on demand. And once it is in production, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining it.
Responsibilities and example projects include:
Get involved in every part of our product from design to troubleshooting and performance analysis.
Take software from the development team and determine how best to deploy it and and integrate it into our development, test, staging and production environments
Manage high-traffic, high-availability services. Maintain and grow a production environment in a way that makes the system increasingly reliable, maintainable, scalable and economically efficient
Design, implement and maintain large-scale distributed services
Work with many common and not-so-common open-source technologies
Keep a cool head under fire and handle regular on-call duty
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
3+ years Linux/Unix system administration experience. A Linux/Unix command-line ninja who is comfortable with awk, sed, bash, tcpdump, lsof, and overall UNIX architecture
Familiarity with distributed systems (especially Hadoop/HBase/elasticsearch) a plus
Fluent in two or more of Python, Ruby, Perl, or Shell Scripting
Experience with git or other DVCSs; git administration experience a plus
Experience with Chef, Puppet, or other 'infrastructure as code' tools and systems
Experience with end-to-end solutions, including code, hardware, and networks
Excellent problem solving skills and willingness to exercise them on a daily basis
Top-notch analytical abilities coupled with a bias to action, and sense of urgency and ownership
Self-directed and collaborative. Able to properly prioritize personal backlog without constant management oversight, but also able to take direction and input
Experience with C++ build and deployment; comfortable with makefiles, etc., a plus
