Devicescape is seeking an experienced Sys Engineer professional to drive automation and quality of service for Devicescape?s cloud platform. Devicescape runs a high transaction Wi-Fi Offload Service supporting a growing set of companies focused on the mobile device industry. Our team will build out the capabilities to manage this cloud based offering, derive value from the data it generates, and be the experts on all of Devicescape?s cloud based assets. This role will require creative problem solving, engineering focus, and the willingness to jump in on live-site issues.
Job Responsibilities:
Success in the cloud is all about automation and insight. As the Systems Engineer you will keep our focus on driving more and more automation into the system while having all the data we need to quickly respond to issues in an increasingly automated fashion. Our service is hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and job 1 is making sure we never have the need to log into individual servers again. We believe in administration of the Service, not of individual instances. In this role you will focus on designing, implementing, and improving upon open-source based deployment, configuration, monitoring, and automation systems with the aim to reduce administration effort for our rapidly growing Offload Service. Success will be more time building capability and less time sustaining existing infrastructure. Other job tasks include:
Train and mentor other Operations and Development team members on the deployment, configuration and management of service infrastructure
Administer, configure and troubleshoot AWS Cloud based Linux systems for lab, staging and production service environments
Performance analysis and solving solve complex systems administration issues with a focus on preventing future service interruptions
Share responsibility for availability, reliability, and performance of production application
Requirements:
JBoss, Linux system level experience is a must
Demonstrated experience designing, deploying and managing common open source automation systems such as Puppet or Chef
Proven success at integrating and managing open source solutions such as Asgard, Nagios, Kafka, Puppet, Splunk
Comfortable scripting or coding in bash, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby, or other languages
Proficient with technologies such as MySQL, memcached, DynamoDB, and Amazon Web services
Have supported high-traffic web services with complex architectures and understand load balancers, Nginx, Java, Tomcat, Apache, Ruby on Rails, or similar technologies
Strong technical documentation skills
Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail
