The Direct Marketing Manager will have responsibility for leading and executing all facets of strategic online direct response (primarily email) programs supporting TripIt, Inc. This includes:
Engagement and retention marketing for TripIt
Acquisition (upsell) and engagement for TripIt Pro (premium service)
Acquisition and retention for TripIt for Teams (b2b)
Acquisition and retention marketing for new consumer products
This position is the lead role in direct marketing. You?ll be the expert and direct marketing leader driving results and customer engagement and satisfaction across our portfolio. This position reports to the Director of Product Marketing.
Develop and execute strategies, plans, and tactics that will effectively engage, educate, and onboard TripIt users. Similarly, drive greater acquisition and retention for TripIt Pro and TripIt for Teams customers.
Design and execute DM tests, determine list segmentation and targeting strategies, as well as timing and frequency of campaigns.
Guide internal design resource to develop outstanding email template creative.
Effectively partner with cross-functional teams to drive successful end to end campaign generation and execution. This includes working with our analysts to measure campaigns, as well as working with copywriters to develop and test copy that drives results,
Perform on-going forecasting, tracking, and results analysis (financial impact of each program)
Proactively identify opportunities for program and process improvement to drive positive change.
Bring fresh ideas and best practices to the table around email marketing.
Define and prioritize customer segments, develop impactful messaging, test/learn across email campaigns and guide landing page development.

Education, Experience & Training required:
BA/BS degree required.
5+ years of experience in direct marketing with a focus on email marketing.
Experience with Exact Target preferred. Some telemarketing/call center and sales support experience also helpful. MBA is a plus, but not required. Must be able to pass a background check.
Job Specific Specialized Knowledge & Skills:
Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills; embraces and enjoys metrics and data.
Proven, successful track record of outstanding results in email marketing efforts that meet/exceed revenue and profitability goals, as well as business and customer objectives.
Practical hands on experience with deploying emails within an email service provider (ESP) or marketing automation tool (list pull, creative and copy development, tracking, QA and deployment).
Competent in pulling reports and analyzing data using tools such as Google Analytics, Omniture or other Web analytics tools.
Experience in b2c and smb focused technology/web companies. Ideally 2+ in travel or a strong interest in the travel sector.
Outstanding communicator - both verbal and written. Strong copywriting skills and recent experience in email copywriting as well as working with copywriters is critical.
Strong project management skills.
Practical experience with test design, response models, database segmentation, list pulls and outcome evaluation.
Experience in setting up automated nurture and engagement programs are a plus.
Hands on proficiency with HTML and SQL fundamentals are a strong plus
