Director of New Channels
About the role:
Reporting to the Vice President responsible for Merchandising, the Director of Channel Merchandising will manage a small direct team and cross-functional resources to develop and execute strategic and tactical channel merchandising and promotional plans. The Director will drive growth by leading merchandising strategies, forecasting and measuring results, and coordinating planning and execution with Product, Marketing and Sales/Partner Management for new and existing channels. Channels include Direct - mobile, native App and some core site; Marketing - social and email; Distribution - publishing partners; and New Products - online-to-offline.
Candidates should have a deep understanding of multi-channel marketing, merchandising and consumer promotions in the online, online-to-offline, and mobile retail space. We are looking for someone with a passion for and track record in creating and driving development of merchandising strategies within the space. This role requires strategic and data-driven thinking and the ability to work across teams/functions to crisply execute on strategies and to skillfully operationalize new product initiatives.
Responsibilities & Project Work:
Develop and execute strategic channel-based merchandising plans to deliver best-in-class customer experience, merchant partner value and revenue growth.
Develop deep industry, channel and category expertise that will inform merchandising, sales, product and marketing efforts needed to support channel growth.
Research and identify channel and vertical opportunities for WhaleShark to further distinguish itself as a leader in the coupon and deal space. Monitor the competitive landscape.
Work with Marketing, Merchandising and Merchant teams to deliver high-quality consumer promotions and merchandising campaigns with compelling calls-to-action and measurable results.
Own home page, mobile, social, email and new product merchandising strategy with continuous optimization for performance.
Test, improve and operationalize merchandising strategies, tactics and metrics to support new channel and product initiatives.
Drive business case analysis and promotion forecasting for channel, vertical and new product initiatives. Use an iterative data-driven approach to optimize consumer response.
Requirements:
7+ years of relevant work experience in online marketing, merchandising or related field in ecommerce, with a track record of taking ownership and driving results.
Deep understanding of multi-channel marketing, merchandising and consumer promotions in the ecommerce space.
Passion for and track record in creating and driving development of new business initiatives to achieve business goals.
Strategic thinking and planning combined with ability to work across teams/functions to develop strategy and execute crisply on new business initiatives
Highly analytical data-driven decision maker. Experience with pricing and promotion modeling and analysis.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment, where ambiguity is the norm.
