Reporting to the VP Engineering, the Director, Engineering will manage software development, quality assurance and technical operations, while working with our product management team to develop world class products, engaging with customers, and partnering with the stake holders on overall business success. The goals of this position will be to contribute to the continued growth and development of our engineering team, build the best products in an environment where talented engineers love to work, and to keep our products ahead of our competition by continuously innovating and delighting our customers and users.
Lead local and off shore software development, technical operations and software quality assurance to own and drive successful delivery of all products while contributing to the product strategy and the overall product roadmap.
Recruit world class engineering and quality assurance talent to drive initiatives and deliver high quality products.
Set the technical direction for the team, drive the evolution of the system architecture, and make appropriate technology choices.
Take a hands-on approach to the entire software development life-cycle: develop project and resource plans; perform day-to-day project management to ensure successful, on-time releases; assist the team in accomplishing all tasks; demonstrate ownership and accountability for the entire product delivery process.
Work effectively with product management, operations, and the senior management team to allocate engineering resources appropriately across various projects, juggling current customer/prospect needs with longer term product roadmap needs (weighing, balancing, & communicating the tradeoffs as necessary).
Implement processes and metrics to insure that the engineering organization is extremely efficient and focused, and that the product is market ready.
Manage expectations, set realistic goals, and achieve them.
Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, excellence and a fun work environment while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our product development organization.
6+ years of software engineering management experience and 7+ years of software development experience building and scaling web and mobile applications
Experience with the Java / J2EE Stack and Architecture, and SaaS solutions
Experience in the HR Technology space would be ideal.
Demonstrated experience leading the design, development, delivery, support and maintenance of a high performing, technically complex, reliable and robust online application with the ability to scale the technology based on customer growth
Demonstrated track record of successfully hiring, motivating, retaining and effectively deploying talented software developers and consultants to perform against aggressive delivery goals
Experience with a variety of software development processes, and ability to apply the right process for the project.
Knowledge of release management and deployment workflow processes, from development release through staging and production deployment.
Experience making major investment decisions for third party tools or technologies, build vs. buy, and fund or not fund decisions
Strong interpersonal skills. Proven ability to build productive relationships and motivate team members.
Ability to manage multiple projects with rapidly changing priorities and deadlines.
Ability to anticipate problems and develop effective solutions.
Desire to work in fast-paced team environment.
Must have a positive, can-do attitude.
Background and in-depth knowledge of search and social media technologies a big plus
BS / MS in Computer Science or related degree required.
