To accelerate growth by expanding into new markets, Northern Power Systems has created a new position for an experienced business development executive who can lead the identification, analysis, and go-to-market strategy for new market opportunities, and drive the transformation of those opportunities into closed sales. The Director of Business Development will report to the CEO and is responsible for planning, screening, developing and coordinating business development initiatives for Northern Power in order to implement the company?s growth strategy throughout the world.
This position cultivates opportunities to grow Northern Power?s business and performs competitive assessments of target markets, industry trends and new products that will drive growth in the marketplace. The Director of Business Development will be tasked with developing and managing the company?s business strategy to increase revenue streams in existing and emerging markets, and by proving our product lines by way of the Company's business model. Essential responsibilities will include developing new business pipelines and closing initial sales in those markets; developing, evaluating and closing strategic alliances; and managing stakeholder relationships to drive new business opportunities. As a member of Northern Power?s Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Business Development will contribute significantly to the formulation of the company?s short- and long-term business plans and strategies.
Develop and execute detailed strategic plans which maintain existing business partnerships while developing new business relationships that will position the Company for continued growth.
Structure, negotiate and close initial sales in new markets
Identify future industry trends, competitive threats, and customer/partner engagement opportunities
Develop strong strategic distribution, developer and channel partner relationships for the business.
Manage a strong lead generation function for the sales organization, tracking new opportunities with developers and potential end users, as well as B2B relationships including contract negotiation, commercial agreements, licensing, and supply agreements.
Be a key spokesperson for the NPS business lines and industry at large. This includes developing relationships with industry analysts/influencers which enhance the Company?s positioning and generate additional revenue and market opportunities.
Continually evaluate the leadership needs of the organization, making changes where necessary and hiring top industry talent. Inspire a culture of fast-paced entrepreneurialism yet with professional scale and industry stature.
7 + years of progressive business development experience in the energy industry or associated industry, including successful completion of large, complex transactions
Successful history of initiating and closing key partnerships, and strategic channel/distributor relationships, effectively leveraging a personal network and third-party relationships.
Track record of bringing new, innovative and technically complex products to market with a history of capitalizing on market trends, and having the uncanny ability to identify new ones.
Demonstrated understanding of customer needs, having worked closely with engineering and product management to translate customer needs into effective products and launch strategies. A history of high credibility in working and presenting to customers is important.
Background in effectively and passionately communicating a company?s unique value proposition to potential customers, partners, market influencers and analysts to build market awareness and position the business as an industry leader.
Background of creating effective pricing, positioning, and messaging simultaneously coordinating and executing lead generation and trade show activities for the sales organization.
Strategic/big-picture thinker who can assist with the long-term vision yet drive the organization to execute flawlessly within realistic budgets.
Large company discipline with small company experience. Background in both ?structured corporate? environments as well as ?emerging growth?, and entrepreneurial environments is important.
History of successful organizational development, having recruited and retained winning teams of the highest quality.
Strong international and distributed team experience is important.
An undergraduate degree, preferably with post-graduate credentials including an MBA.
This position will require extensive travel and will manage a globally dispersed team. Preferred candidates will be multi-lingual and will have experience communicating with a culturally diverse clientele.
