The Director of Data Engineering will lead a team of managers and staff to plan, prioritize and execute on data production projects and processes. This person will interface with a variety of internal stakeholders to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of data and related quality controls to support the Places and Products business lines.
Not only must this person have the technical chops to provide leadership to major projects, but also have a proven track record managing a growing team of analysts and engineers. This person will manage staff in LA, Shanghai and Palo Alto.
Responsibilities include:
Manage multiple data operation teams to support various commercial businesses.
Lead a team of analysts and engineers in a high-achieving , mission-driven atmosphere that is conducive to learning continuously and performing efficiently in order to produce high quality data.
Work with executives and managers to understand their business targets, requests, priorities and requirements, and work with them to deliver strategic data collection framework that will enable them to meet their business goals in an efficient, cost effective and scalable manner.
Work with the sales team to ensure Data Operations responds to customer queries, assist in pre-sales support activities and troubleshoot as needed when there are issues.
Perform management-related tasks such as: communicate success as well as challenges and breakthroughs to organization and leadership, monitor staff's performance, attend staff meetings and support recruiting.
Qualifications:
5+ years of Engineering Management experience, preferably within the tech industry/Silicon Valley. Must still be hands-on with proven software development experience Java, C++, Python, or Ruby.
Through Knowledge of Java, user of Hadoop, Hive, Cassandra, Pig, MySql or NoSql or similar.
At least a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
Experience managing efforts in Unix/Linux environments, distributed systems and/or developing large scale web applications and tools.
Experience with current web technologies.
SQL and/or Extract/Transform/Load (ETL) frameworks.
HTML DOM/XPath and/or Regular expressions.
Experience with data curation.
Proven experience working with senior leadership on defining and delivering on a product roadmap.
Experience managing a distributed software engineering team.
Strong communication and mentoring skills.
Thorough understanding of software development lifecycle from conception to delivery.
A proven track record for being detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to motivate and follow-through on projects.
