INRIX is seeking a visionary design leader to drive all concept, interaction, and graphic design for its consumer products and build out a world-class consumer design team and discipline. You?ll also have the freedom to propose brand new consumer products and user scenarios in which INRIX provides value to millions of consumers multiple times a day. This is bigger than navigation ? there are whole new product categories to invent.
As the Director of Design, you will work in conjunction with product management, marketing, and the executive staff to envision the future benefits of real-time motion/location data sources in hundreds of millions of pockets and vehicles. You will also and work side by side with engineering to realize these benefits in working code and test the implementations with real end users. This is a vital management position reporting to the Vice President of the Consumer Mobile Division.
Responsibilities:
Create a radically improved look and feel and a greater degree of simplicity throughout the application experience
Deliver mobile-first interaction design for a variety of screen sizes and form factors (smart phones, tablets, PCs, web)
Generate end to end graphic designs (look and feel) for all consumer products
Drive concept design for future products and possibilities (storyboards, interactive demos, videos)
Execute project plans to meet delivery commitments
Manage the day-to-day activities of the design team and hire great new talent to expand the design team?s capabilities
Develop consistent UX principles and UI guidelines spanning devices, applications, and form factors
Communicate new designs, design rationales, and design principles to all levels inside INRIX
Validate design work through cognitive walkthroughs, usability tests, and other qualitative techniques.
React to user and market data on a regular basis, leading the design portion of application optimization efforts by building different design alternatives for performance comparison.
Our ideal Director of Design will have:
A mind blowing portfolio of past work in the software space (online portfolio link required with application).
A track record of released products and services and the production experience that accompanies it.
Significant design experience with phones and tablet devices.
Experience building concept videos and working prototypes (Flash, Director, etc.) for communicating product design visions internally and running usability tests on possible product directions.
A history of managing design teams and leading them to greatness.
7+ years? experience in software design.
Experience in all aspects of customer-driven development.
A Passion for user experience, product quality, and attention to details.
Comfort with rapid development cycles and tight schedules.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Graphic or Industrial Design, Computer Science, HCI, Fine Arts, Architecture, Library Sciences or related areas; or equivalent experience.
