Pilots learn to fly planes using flight simulators. Doctors learn medical procedures using the simulators that we create. We have been creating these simulations for more than 15 years and are the worldwide leader in our area of simulation training. We?re looking for the right person to join our team and contribute to our continued success.
As the head of the engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the talented group of software and hardware engineers who create our simulation products. The software engineers consist of multiple agile teams as well as a core engine team. The hardware team includes both electrical and mechanical engineers. You will be a hands-on leader responsible for ensuring the focus, efficiency, success and happiness of all of these teams.
What you will be doing
Fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation and excellence while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our product development organization.
Recognizing and driving appropriate changes in staffing including team growth and restructuring. You will be the point person recruiting new talent.
Managing personnel including coaching, hiring, firing and compensation.
Improving the overall development process (along with our ScrumMaster).
Representing engineering at the senior leadership level.
Representing engineering with new clients.
Driving the creation of estimates for new work.
Helping to develop and execute against budgets.
Coaching staff to develop goals, responsibilities and metrics. Holding regular meetings with direct staff to monitor progress and act accordingly.
Working closely with the Software Architect to ensure the health of the simulation infrastructure
We are looking for the following skills
A minimum of 7 years of engineering leadership experience within a company creating software and hardware products.
At least 12 years of overall engineering experience.
Experience with a variety of software development methodologies, both agile and waterfall-based.
Proven ability to build productive relationships and motivate team members.
A positive can do attitude.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent organization skills.
Ability to multi-task and adjust processes according to changing priorities and requirements.
Professional demeanor and the projection of that demeanor.
Ability to develop consensus within a diverse group with diverse opinions.
Strong PC and Microsoft Office skills.
Ability to travel, up to 10%.
Experience/skills in any of these areas would be nice but is not required
C++ software development
Hardware development (mechanical and electrical)
Agile leadership (ScrumMaster, coach, product owner?)
