We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead a growing team of engineers responsible for our web, mobile applications and REST APIs. This is an opportunity to work on a large-scale, mission-critical application used by millions of people. An aptitude for developing elegant, scalable, robust, and maintainable code is a must.

We are an agile shop. We pair program, follow TDD, and work at a sustainable pace. We track our commitments in Pivotal Tracker and hold regular retrospectives. We're looking for an individual who excels in this environment and can coach the team to maintain peak velocity.

Responsibilities:

Provide empowerment, technical leadership, career development, and mentorship to team members
Encourage developers to craft solidly tested, maintainable code
Create a development culture that is passionate about scalability and response times
Make sure every shipped feature is beautifully simple, complete and necessary
Drive prioritization and detailed definition of feature requirements through discussions with Product Management
Work with the team on architecture and detailed technical design, including: designing schema, implementation direction/advice, performing code review
Maintain total system knowledge, so able to act as "single point of contact" for questions from every group
Provide technical guidance, pros/cons analysis to Product Management and other teams

Requirements:

Prior experience in a fast-paced start-up environment is a must
3+ years experience as a software engineering manager or director in a dynamic growing company
7+ years of software development experience and a solid engineering foundation indicated by a demonstrated understanding of product design, lifecycle, and software development best practices
Strong experience in product-oriented companies with a focus on the customer experience
Proven ability and desire to deliver projects on time
Expeirence in hiring and performance management of direct reports
Experience managing teams following Agile practices
Experience with building sdk for iOS and Android desirable
BS/MS in Computer Science
Demonstrated experience building and scaling consumer application with RoR and Javascript frameworks (jQuery and Backbone)
