Zipcar has established its brand and roots based on strong, innovative marketing at the local level that engages members and creates interest and awareness with prospective ?Zipsters.? We?re looking for a dynamic individual to develop and lead a best-in-class field marketing team.
The Director of Field Marketing will be responsible for leading and supporting a team of geographically-dispersed marketing managers to deliver relevant, timely and effective local marketing in support of member acquisition and revenue goals. This role is responsible for driving the development and support of innovative and highly-targeted local marketing plans that are aligned with Home office / Corporate Marketing and Zipcar business units (Zipcar for Business, University, etc.) while ensuring high quality execution, consistency and strong ROI. He/she will integrate the objectives of multiple stakeholders into local and regional marketing plans supported by both corporate and local marketing teams through both direct and indirect routes to market. This role requires close collaboration with regional VP?s, market General Managers and local marketing managers.
The ideal Zipster for this role will be a self-driven, go-getter who is creative, curious and analytical. We?re looking for a very sharp and self-motivated achiever who combines a deep interest in business and passion for data-driven decision-making; with demonstrated strong analytical capabilities and meticulous attention to detail. The person selected for this position will contribute at a very high-level but must also have the ability to ?roll-up their sleeves? as necessary.
Leadership and Team management
Build, grow and transform Zipcar?s Field Marketing into a high-performance, highly-efficient and consistent marketing organization that continually provides measurable impact to the business within each market where Zipcar operates
Mentor, cultivate and grow marketing expertise ensuring clear succession planning for team members as Zipcar continues to grow (i.e. groom the next generation of leadership)
Maintain a strong performance-driven culture ? analytically focused with a test & learn mindset. Encourage and reward innovation
Strategy & Management
Build and manage a comprehensive Field Marketing strategic plan that is highly integrated from the local level through home office / corporate marketing
Leverage the creativity and energy of the Field Marketing and local teams to strive towards highly-innovative, ground-breaking field marketing that drives engagement but demonstrate measurable ROI
Oversee consistent quality of marketing operations and functions that occur at the local level
Collaborate with the leadership of individual markets to identify, develop, and implement local marketing initiatives that supplement national activities in order to achieve local member, revenue and profit targets. Collaborate with local marketing teams to proactively develop targeted action plans at the market level where necessary (competitor entering the market, addressing a soft-spot, etc.)
Establish and manage field marketing success metrics and objectives in collaboration with key stakeholders, and report progress toward goals to senior leadership at corporate and local levels
Drive, encourage and incorporate the innovation and results at the local level and help apply the learnings and best practices across all markets
Continue to develop and manage the marketing ?playbook? for new market launches; manage the strategic planning and tactical execution.
Build a scalable and efficient approach to new market launches to help support continued Zipcar growth
Lead the development and management of an internal annual field marketing conference
Develop and implement market-level field marketing reporting & benchmarking including the development of core KPI?s and leading indicators on key business measures; ensure that KPI?s map to core member acquisition, revenue and profit goals
Support and facilitate local measurement needs
Maintain constant line of sight into all marketing activities executed on locally; serve as the key ?go-to? person/team for the leadership of each market for marketing-related inquiries and initiatives
Customer & Competitive Insight
Maintain a deep understanding of the target audience base in each market (demographics, local nuances, spending profiles, drive behavior, local trends, etc.)
Understand and anticipate customers? needs and strategically position Zipcar to drive profitable growth (members, revenue) for the market and organization. Leverage and act upon market specific customer insights and competitor strategies as inputs into strategic roadmaps and tactical action plans
Build out and maintain marketing focused SWOT analysis for respective markets in collaboration with the markets
Demonstrated ability to take a field marketing organization to the next level; develop & manage people and competencies
Ability to think strategically and align multiple stakeholder groups; effectively drive initiatives overcoming obstacles across all levels of the organization and geographies
Strong, demonstrated understanding of localized marketing approaches to customer acquisition & retention; Proactive & innovative approach to marketing with creative problem solving skills
Strong leadership capability, ability to motivate teams and work well cross functionally
Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, decision-making, presentation and organizational skills
Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple projects at one time
Self-motivated; ability to take ownership for assigned projects; work independently and with a team
Strong analytical skills, business acumen and the ability to analyze data to spot important trends and opportunities; Strong aptitude for developing and aligning meaningful metrics to initiatives and ideas
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast changing environment with a strong attention to detail, communicate effectively and work well in a cross functional environment
Ability to adapt quickly to changing business environments; execute supplemental marketing tactics in order to drive immediate impact
Ability to identify, prioritize and efficiently manage time to focus on critical tasks
Advanced proficiency with standard business software (Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Requirements & Qualifications
7-10 years marketing experience, at least 5+ years in a field marketing role, 5+ managing a team
Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred, quantitative background preferred
Strong leadership/management of people
Strong knowledge of digital / location-based marketing; high comfort level with technology and data
