SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION:
We are looking for a Director of Hardware Engineering with successful product development experience in a startup environment (preferable). Possessing strong technical and management skills, the candidate will be responsible for delivering industry-leading, high-quality devices for the Identity Solutions business unit. The successful candidate will drive the hardware development for identity solutions products, which contain a challenging mix of optical, electrical and mechanical technology, driven by complex firmware and software control systems. He/She needs to be hands-on with a track record for guiding a hardware engineering team and manufacturing team to creatively meet the defined requirements. As a member of the product development team, the Director will play a key role in setting product/solution direction for the business unit. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver industry leading, high-quality devices on time and within budget. Contribute to setting product direction for product development team.
Provide leadership through all phases of the product design cycle from conceptual design, specification, prototyping, hardware bring-up, compliance testing, release to manufacturing and product life-cycle
Manage a team of electrical, mechanical, optical and embedded software engineers with varying skill levels and expertise, tracking progress of team members towards key deliverables.
Work cross-functionally with other departmental managers and individual contributors, such as manufacturing and testing, marketing, and biometric scientists, in an efficient and effective manner to achieve project goals.
QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS- EXPERIENCE:
BSEE with 10+ years of experience managing hardware engineering (MSEE or PhD preferred).
Strong organizational, management, leadership and communication skills.
Team player who is inventive, quick to learn, committed to team goals, and thrives in an environment of change and innovation.
Prior experience in managing development of complex systems containing multiple technologies.
Prior experience managing development of electronics boards for optical related products with sensors and electro-mechanical devices.
Prior experience managing development of firmware and embedded software.
Ability to understand product level requirements and define hardware architecture flow-downs for the product.
Knowledge of configuration control and release management.
Prior experience in identifying and implementing processes for the hardware engineering department.
