THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Appia?s IT Operations Team, put simply, makes sure that Appia?s services always work and are always fast. The team takes classic "ops" problems and solves them with engineering and software yielding very high uptime (at very large scale!) with surprisingly small groups of software, network and system engineers serving millions of app downloads and hundreds of millions of server requests daily in 200+ countries.
An ideal candidate for this role will have prior experience managing multiple user-facing services and the teams which developed and operated them, will be capable of technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems and storage yet verbally and cognitively agile enough to hold their own in a strategy discussion with Appia?s executive team.
Appia seeks an experienced technology and operations leader to help ensure the high-availability and performance of our end-to-end infrastructure, security and change management processes.
Own end-to-end availability and performance of Appia's global infrastructure
Ensure a great, almost-100% reliable experience for Appia users around the globe while simultaneously enabling a rapid pace of innovation and change in the services
Responsible for the day to day activities of IT Operations including security, monitoring and change management
Manage complex server environments supporting hundreds of millions transactions per day, multiple data centers, including strong familiarity with cloud infrastructure architecture (AWS, RackSpace, etc.)
Manage 24 x 7 monitoring of all infrastructure systems and help ensure 99.9%+ SLA uptime
Participate in technology research, procurement, deployment, and configuration of new systems
Leading change management including identifying appropriate resources needed, developing schedules to ensure timely completion of the projects
Provide input to leadership on IT strategy, operations, cost
Minimum Job Requirements:
BA/BS in Computer Science (in lieu of degree, 4 years of relevant work experience)
5 years of relevant work experience including hands-on technical management experience
Experience with AWS, colocation, private cloud, networking
Must have experience operating highly available & scalable platforms and applications
Strong ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and motivate professional staff
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to hold your own in a discussion with senior leadership

The Director of IT Operations works in an open office environment and works a standard 40 hours per week. However, evening or weekend work may be necessary to meet deadlines or solve specific problems.
