Second Genome, Inc., an innovative venture-backed start-up in the Bay Area, is leveraging the microbiome to develop personalized medicine solutions. We are seeking a passionate, well-rounded, digital media savvy Director of Marketing with life science experience who is looking to grow within our organization. The Director of Marketing?s primary responsibilities are to drive the development, implementation, and execution of marketing initiatives that contribute to the financial and strategic success of the Research Services business unit. This role includes primary responsibility for Product Marketing strategy and programs, and significant leadership in Product Management functions. The Director of Marketing is accountable for achieving high return/impact on the marketing spend. There is some flexibility as to what this role will encompass and may be tailored to a viable candidate's particular skillset. Lead product marketing strategy and execution for company?s rapidly growing Research Services business unit.
Contribute heavily to product roadmap strategy through deep understanding of market requirements.
Manage intersection of sales and product teams.
Define and own goals, objectives, budget, messaging, and calendar for online and offline marketing initiatives.
Develop lead generation and lead nurturing programs.
Develop and implement thought leadership programs.
Create and deliver on tactical marketing activities according to plan (e.g. email campaigns, presentation materials, online advertising, social media, trade shows, webinars, co-marketing materials, website communications,etc.)
Monitor and report on ROI for all marketing activity and results, including identifying the key performance indicators.
Assist in managing and developing the service portfolio yearly plans, and image/positioning in relation to the competitor offerings.
Stewardship of the Second Genome brand to ensure that all materials,pricing, programs,and communications are on brand, consistent, and building relationships with clients, investors, and partners.
Conduct services portfolio management as assigned; inputs fully characterized justifications on new product/service ideas, gathers competitive intelligence, assesses market opportunity, coordinates with new product development teams, writes product requirements, determines COGS, defines pricing, creates and assesses effectiveness of promotions, and forecasts revenue and profit Assist in defining market opportunities and makes recommendations to enhance market potential and brand penetration.

Experience working closely with Product Management and Product Developments, with ideally some Product Management experience.
Requires knowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) business or life sciences. PhD and/or MBA desirable but not required.
4-5 years of relevant experience in life sciences marketing, product management, market research, sales or strategy consulting.
Must have excellent communication skills in presenting life sciences technology, including oral, written and presentation techniques.
Experience working directly with life science researchers, and deep understanding of the ?day-in-the-life? of laboratory work.
Excellent understanding of online/digital marketing, website management, SEO, and social media.
The ability to see new business opportunities, think creatively, set and meet aggressive objectives, and develop very strong working relationships will be required for success.
Must be able to work independently, communicate proactively, manage multiple projects, and prioritize daily tasks.
