DescriptionThe Director of Nutrition and Compliance will serve as a critical member of the Revolution Foods Home Office team by ensuring that the organization continues as an industry leader in the school nutrition regulatory environment. The Director of Nutrition and Compliance manages a team of 5 staff, and oversees day to day business related to audit support, nutrition reporting and product design in accordance with federally and state mandated school nutrition targets. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer, and is based in our Oakland, CA Home Office, however some travel to our markets may be required.
Requirements
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but will not be limited to:
Management and Supervisory Responsibilities (50-60%)
Lead departmental team to support nutrition and compliance functionalities in all operating national regions.
Continue codification of departmental best practice procedures for application in program delivery as business continues to evolve; ensure best practice procedures are implemented in day to day business and adjusted as necessary.
Plan and implement departmental business cycle in tandem with cross departmental business priorities demonstrating well-executed project management.
Provide nutrition and compliance strategic guidance to departmental team for product design, audit response and nutrition documentation deliverables.
Manage departmental budget and play a key role in meeting company financial objectives.
As company grows, recruit, train and onboard new team members towards standards of excellence and in alignment with company priorities.
Policy, Regulatory and Compliance (30-40%)
Stay abreast of nutrition-related scientific literature, legislative actions and regulatory agency guidance and synthesize relevance to company growth initiatives to inform strategic planning and pipeline prioritization for school meal programs including NSLP and CACFP.
Oversee and evolve menu, production, ingredient and allergen documentation program, ensuring reporting compliance with USDA and state agency audit expectations and customer service needs.
Oversee audit response process, document requisition efforts and submissions for all markets nationally.
Play a key role in establishing multi-disciplinary processes and procedures to ensure products ultimately meet nutritional guidelines for school meal programs.
Author training material for nutrition compliance competencies related to production and operational execution as necessary; deliver and oversee trainings and presentations in individual and group settings with in-person, webinar and Skype communications to multiple levels of management.
Design company strategy for meeting current and future customer needs for Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act Certification by applying relevant policy requirements and awareness of company constraints; oversee implementation of project strategy and deliverables within department and with collaborating departments and regional culinary centers under aggressive timelines.
Serve as key resource and provider of guidance and recommendations for Executive Team and regional culinary center leadership on nutrition compliance regulatory issues.
Serve as lead company liaison for 3rd party nutrition audit communications for sensitive customer needs.
Systems and Data Management (20%)
Define and direct use of nutritional analysis database features to support national operations.
As company evolves its use of systems and engages in database buildout and migrations, ensure that the compliance reporting needs as required by the regulatory school nutrition environment are met during strategic project design and team engagement.
Strategically plan and implement database buildout in accordance with annual school and market launch calendars to ensure timely execution with exceptional accuracy and data integrity.
Content Development (10%)
Collaborate in development of nutrition collateral and content for PR materials and/or external interviews as necessary.
QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
M.S. Nutrition, Masters in Public Health or similar degree required.
Must be a licensed Registered Dietitian.
Possess at least 7+ years of experience in school nutrition, food service, compliance, regulatory policy and/or program planning and implementation.
Prior experience working for and/or having relationships with State Department of Education Nutrition Services or regional/national USDA agencies is highly desired.
Previous supervisory experience managing team of nutritionists, RDs and admin staff required.
A self-directed, results-driven individual who enjoys working in an entrepreneurial setting where process and procedures are still being developed, and has the ability to develop, author and implement new process and procedures.
Analytic skillset and process and data-oriented approach to project design and implementation.
Solid oral and written professional communication skills, coupled with the ability to effectively present information to co-workers from other disciplines.
Proven record in delivering tightly managed complex project outcomes and high quality accurate work.
Outstanding organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects/deadlines.
Exceptional attention to detail in day-to-day tasks with simultaneous eye for bigger picture company growth and scalability objectives.
Ability to collaborate with other departmental heads and drive project outcomes forward with demonstrated results.
