Remedy Informatics is seeking a Director of Ontology and Medical Terminologies who is passionate about using information technology to tangibly, measurably, and permanently improve the effectiveness of clinical practice and biomedical research. This position will assist in the development, configuration, and integration of our innovative enterprise-level applications for biomedical data aggregation and business intelligence across multiple healthcare practice and research settings. Remedy Informatics is a dynamic and growing, healthcare information technology company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our founders have helped build a variety of innovative software and technology companies, including Oracle, Intel, and TenFold.Our ideal candidate will combine practical terminology and ontology development and maintenance experience with an understanding of the management of healthcare data and data quality. For the current opening we are particularly interested in experience with Health Language, Inc. products. This work requires an understanding of medical ontologies, biomedical terminologies, metadata, knowledge representation and aspects of medical informatics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the maintenance and version control of Remedy terminologies
Assist in the development of the Remedy Mosaic Ontology
Lead terminology modeling and mapping projects
Supervise creation of project statements of work and requirements documents
Manage the use of terminology and ontology development tools that Remedy Informatics adopts and/or builds
Participate in the implementation and use of registries, clinical data quality improvement systems and processes
Manage the medical informatics team
Work closely with system developers and project management
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Masters degree in a computer science, medical informatics, or health information management discipline, or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 2 years of biomedical controlled vocabularies and coding systems experience
Experience with vocabulary browsers and authoring tools
Experience with relational databases and SQL
Ability to define requirements, develop project plans and report conclusions
Ability to work creatively and flexibly, both independently and as part of a team
Experience with LOINC, SNOMED CT and RxNorm
Desire and ability to learn new skills, systems and processes
Good written and oral communication skills
Experience working directly with software development professionals
Experience in healthcare information systems development
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Experience with Health Language Inc. solutions
Experience in clinical practice, nursing or pharmacy
