The Director of Product Validation will report to the Vice President of Engineering in Austin, Texas. In this role, he/she will be responsible for developing the end-to-end validation strategy for SolarBridge?s photovoltaic microinverter and monitoring solutions. He/She will also manage a team of engineers responsible for execution of the validation effort. The mission of the Director of Product Validation is to implement thorough testing of Solarbridge?s products to ensure robust designs prior to release from development. The products to be tested consist of: 1) SolarBridge?s DC-to-AC power inverters with a PLC communications interface and sophisticated controls; 2) SolarBridge?s Power Manager communications hub consisting of hardware, firmware and software; 3) SolarBridge?s Power Portal Web-based management system.
The person in this role will take an end-to-end approach to validating SolarBridge products as a ?total solution,? ensuring a best-in-class user experience for Solarbridge customers. The ability to lead and influence decisions with internal and external stakeholders resulting in a high-quality and flexible validation process is critical. The goal is to develop industry leading validation processes which meet the most demanding specifications of tier-one customers. The Validation team is also responsible for documenting and executing test plans/cases, documenting test results and regularly reporting status and progress against test efforts up to executive management. This is a very fast-paced environment with multiple test projects often happening in parallel. The Director of Product Validation needs to drive the definition of key metrics and reports to be used to communicate validation status throughout the company. As a key member of the Engineering team, the Director of Product Validation must provide strong people management for his/her team while influencing peers in a positive way.
The Director of Product Validation will work to quickly identify key near-term initiatives and opportunities and gain a clear perspective of the long-term product validation challenges and issues confronting SolarBridge. He/she will quickly develop and manage key relationships within the company and create an environment of effective teamwork across functional boundaries.
Additional responsibilities of the Director of Product Validation are as follows:
Implement a transparent, team-focused approach to validation management that includes all stakeholders in the company.
Work closely with the broader product Engineering, Reliability and Quality teams to quickly make the validation approach ?world class? through innovative solutions and mentoring of existing talent.
Build a culture of technical excellence and predictable execution.
Maintain a high level of engagement with design teams, Reliability and Quality and leverage this to drive continuous improvement by feeding back lessons learned from the field etc? into the validation process.
The ideal candidate will have a four (4) year degree in EE, CS or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the technology industry in a product test/validation capacity. At least two (2) years of direct people management experience is also required. The ideal candidate will be a bright, accomplished person that has the intellect, high energy and drive to fit in with an extremely bright and motivated engineering team operating in a highly competitive environment. This person has a high level of ambition, drive, self-motivation and will be results oriented, process driven and relationship focused. He/she will be well organized, willing and eager to put process and structure in place so that the organization and validation capabilities can be quickly scaled. Equally important, the successful candidate must have unquestionable ethics and integrity. The successful candidate will possess intuition and self-confidence to adapt to changing situations.
The SolarBridge organization is multi-national but U.S. headquartered, so very good written and spoken English is required.
Highly desirable characteristics of the Director of Product Validation are:
In-depth understanding of the phased validation process typical in mature development organizations
Experience driving cross-functional teamwork to deliver validation results that exceed expectations
Experience in software as well as hardware validation
Familiarity with test automation
An undergraduate EE, CS or Computer Engineering degree is required. A Master?s degree is desired.
Open to rare domestic and international travel.
