Bauer's Intelligent Transportation is currently seeking a Director of Safety and Training to manage our Northern and Southern California locations. The successful candidate will have experience working in the ground transportation industry. The Director of Safety and Training will be responsible for training and compliance oversight of Bauer's Chauffeurs according to state, federal, DMV, DOT and company guidelines; ensuring ongoing training and performance evaluations for all employees.
The primary responsibility of the Director of Safety and Training is to lead the organization in driving safety awareness and in the development and consistent implementation of action steps to eliminate safety incidents, injuries and the associated costs, in balance with overall business objectives and consistency with the quality process. This position is responsible for developing a long-term strategic plan for the Safety and Training teams at all locations, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promotes excellence in safety and service in each of his/her assigned locations.
Direct individual Safety and Training Managers and Operations Leaders in safety risk analysis, based on performance, including recommendations and assistance on corrective actions.
Generate upper level management enthusiasm for new processes and on uses of new technology, in support of current and future safety endeavors.
Successfully work with all areas of facility safety to include; Occupational Health, Associate Training and Workers Compensation, to deliver overall safety results.
Act as a technical resource expert on interpretation of Safety reports, policies and procedures.
Direct Safety and Training Managers in observing and coaching operational leaders on daily safety practices.
Manage development of safety training programs-targeting current loss trends and identified ?At Risk? associates and groups.
Manage auditing of training and on-boarding programs to ensure content/execution support safety and training objectives.
Act as liaison between Operations and Human Resources to identify areas of concern, and develop actions to deliver compliance with pre-work screening, pre-hire drug/alcohol testing.
Ensures all new hire employees meet general qualifications for each division, including background and DMV checks.
Develop and guide implementation of Safety awareness/promotion programs; regulatory, sustainment, posters, messages, awards, and targets of opportunity.
Identify equipment risk factors on loss trend analysis for the maintenance departments.
Direct OSHA regulations compliance and injury prevention practices at operation facilities. Schedules and/or conducts safety audits and inspections, and provides support to locations.
Provide direction, to ensure that work scheduling procedures meet customer and company safety and service objectives.
Manage, develop and present a regular flow of performance data to Division and Executive Leadership.
Works with executive team to develop and enact safety policies.
Manage workplace safety programs, policies, and procedures to identify and mitigate risks to people, property, and the environment.
Ensures that Safety technology tools are used and results are examined, trend data is analyzed, and safety action plans are developed to reduce and prevent future safety incidents.
Ensures a consistent Safety Culture throughout the locations that incorporate operations, safety and maintenance departments, and emphasizes a team approach and individual responsibility, of all employees to achieve common goals.
Manage and conduct vehicle, office safety and security audits.
Oversees successful completion of all related audits, including those conducted by corporate and client staff, and by state and federal regulatory agencies.
Implement loss control measures from investigation of incidents.
Provide support to the field safety organization, regarding classroom and behind the wheel instruction, according to corporate and client specifications in all aspects of vehicle operation in the course of passenger transportation, including defensive driving, service area familiarization, passenger loading, unloading and securement, proper manifest documentation, use of on-board equipment, accident and emergency procedures, dispatch and radio communications, and passenger sensitivity.
Ensures Regulatory requirement compliance relating to health, safety, and security.
10 years of progressive management experience.
Minimum of the last 7 years in Safety leadership roles.
Experience as a Director, Manager, or District Manager of a Safety or loss prevention department, with a proven management track record.
Previous passenger transportation and/or large fleet experience required.
Previous training and supervisory experience preferred, but not required.
Excellent safety and service record.
BA or BS degree in related area.
Masters Degree (recommended) in industrial Safety & Hygiene.
Ability to work extended schedule to include some weekends.
Strong leadership skills; ability to bring a group to consensus.
Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
Possess good judgment and sensitivity.
Possess strong problem analysis; ability to understand data and identify trends.
Able to foster a team environment.
Strong self-management; ability to perform independently.
Ability to work outside agencies (Federal and State Safety and Health agencies, local government agencies, law enforcement, etc).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of local training program and local operations.
Familiarization with service area.
Knowledge of project specific vehicles, components and data/communications systems.
Knowledge of State and Federal regulations and corporate safety programs and policies.
Bachelor?s Degree or equivalent knowledge in occupational health, safety, training and transportation.
Certifications according to local contract requirements.
