Job Description:
Reporting to the Vice President of Wafer Fab Operations, the Director of Operations will be responsible for leading the effort to improve operational efficiencies and throughput performance for manufacturing GaN on GaN LEDs. This position includes oversight of the following functional areas - wafer processing, chip fabrication, chip test and limited pilot line assembly operations (die attach and wire bond).
The Director of Operations will lead a team of more than 60 Process Technicians to manage a 24 x 7 operation. Direct reports will be 4 shift supervisors. This position also requires successful cross functional relationships with other groups such as corporate capacity planning, R&D, offshore contract manufacturing.
Soraa is currently in a very rapid growth mode which requires significant capacity increases at the Fremont wafer fab. The achievement of this internal production capability is mission critical to Soraa.
Specific near-term objectives/deliverables for the position include:
? Evaluation of current equipment, process control tools, and manufacturing practices, to determine opportunities to improve operational performance through the integration of optimized hardware and software solutions, as well as best practice sets, while balancing operational priorities between volume production and technology development.
? Identification, validation, and deployment of process performance measurement metrics and data gathering systems optimizing sustainable scalability and reproducible manufacturing outcomes for all operations.
? Definition and deployment of root cause analysis and corrective action plans to identify and resolve quality and yield problems at best possible speed.
? Definition and implementation of training and development strategies for Production Technicians and Leads, assuring optimized coverage of critical functions across all shifts and manufacturing modules.
? Partnering with peers to assure shared knowledge and purpose for all operational components.
Experience and Skills:
? Bachelors degree in applicable area of Engineering is required, with an advanced degree preferred.
? 10-15 years experience in semiconductor wafer fabrication operations and engineering management required, with specific experience working with compound semiconductor and laser fabrication technology desired.
? Demonstrated ability to manage volume production is required. Experience in managing new product development efforts on the same single fabrication line is desired.
? Demonstrated ability to identify, qualify and deploy operations process and data management systems, enabling throughput growth, improved product reproducibility, yield, and process control performance.
? Demonstrated competency in the identification, qualification, and deployment of specialty wafer fabrication equipment, resulting in optimized yield and throughput performance in a volume production environment.
? Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate critical path objectives and outcomes to all levels of management and production staff.
? Demonstrated ability to hire, manage, and motivate diverse teams and specially skilled technical contributors.
