Responsible for the general health and direction of a significant portion of the company?s product line. Specifically, guides the direction of new product and feature enhancement, competitive assessment, messaging, sales training and sales and marketing support. Takes ownership for the product lines KPI?s. Coordinates with cross-functional teams including product management, marketing, analytics, operations and engineering for sales growth, profitability and client retention. Works with senior management to resolve resource conflicts and product line strategic direction.
Essential Job Functions/Activities
Provide detailed, thoughtful and timely marketplace assessments. Assessments include customer needs and gaps, competitive assessments, synthesis of external inputs and the development of company specific implications with recommended approaches.
Identify, prioritize and develop major new products and services that expand the company?s market and competitive positioning. Includes business case development, requirement definition, use case development and oversight of launch.
Define, prioritize and execute a flow of product enhancements and operational improvements designed to enhance revenue and efficiency.
Own the KPI Dashboard for the product line ? including defining measures, setting goals, reporting on progress and recommending tactics to improve KPI?s
Develop and communicate overall positioning, benefits, features and go-to market strategy to internal and external stakeholders (sales, clients, prospects, media, analysts, management).
Support sales in early stage account strategy and major client pursuits.
Direct and develop marketing strategies and tactics including content development, pricing, promotion and channel strategy.
Other Job Functions/Activities
Participate with other product managers to develop best practices and become the owner of specific assigned best practices.
Assist in developing the company talent pool by helping to identify resource needs (and implications), conducting interviews for candidates in select positions, and providing cross functional assessments of key staff.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education: Undergraduate in Marketing, Business or Communications. MBA is highly preferred.
Years of Experience: 5 or more in a similar level and role.
Specific Skills and Abilities:
Experience in both agile and waterfall methods of development
Proficient in the development of competitive assessments and positioning; product planning and roadmap definition; sales training and presentation;
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Specific domain experience for the assigned product line (e.g., trade and cooperative marketing; e-mail or mobile messaging; online video advertising)
Alliance development (internal and external)
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications, etc.:
Pragmatic Marketing Certified is preferred
Supervisory Responsibility
Direct: The position may require direct supervision of junior product or marketing managers over time.
Indirect: The position will set cross functional goals and help to prioritize work and hold cross functional team members accountable to their commitments.
Additional Comments
May include light travel. Position may require long hours as projects near their completion date and all hands jump in to meet project goals.
