Director, Procurement Merrimack Pharmaceuticals
THIS JOB HAS EXPIRED Merrimack Pharmaceuticals is a biopharmaceutical company discovering, developing and preparing to commercialize innovative medicines paired with companion diagnostics for the treatment of serious diseases, with an initial focus on cancer. Merrimack currently has six targeted therapeutic oncology candidates in clinical development. The lead candidate, MM-398, which Merrimack is planning to commercially manufacture and sell, is currently in Phase 3 clinical development.
The Director, Procurement will serve as the head of procurement at Merrimack, including responsibility for negotiating pricing across the organization. Major responsibilities will include negotiating clinical trial contracts, purchasing supplies for research and development, and drafting long-term agreements with suppliers, contractors, and partners. The Director will work closely with Manufacturing functional areas with regard to negotiating the purchase of materials for the manufacturing of product candidates. The Director will be responsible for achieving targets for cost savings and avoidance, and other metrics.
Oversee purchasing function, including leading and directing the activities of appropriate employees
Align department with Finance, Operational, and Corporate goals and requirements
Develop processes, templates, and best practices to be used within purchasing and throughout the company
Educate Merrimack personnel on supplier, contractor, and partner management practices, and develop roles and responsibilities guidance to drive better pricing and performance
Lead direct negotiation with suppliers, contractors and partners
Lead efforts relative to cross-company material sourcing, including identifying and qualifying second sources for critical raw materials and components.
Develop and manage metrics to track cost savings and avoidance, supplier performance via order to actual and delivery time, purchase price variance, and other critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in an effort to achieve agreed-upon targets
Work with functional areas to define and implement roles and responsibilities with regard to cross-company material purchases, and to understand strategic and tactical plans
Work with Finance to understand budgets and financial forecast processes in an effort to identify areas of potential cost savings
Bachelor?s and/or Master?s degree in an appropriate discipline
10+ years of relative experience in procurement, preferably within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment
Proven experience in negotiating contracts and agreements
Excellent analytic skills; highly proficient in Excel-based modeling with strong computer skills
Ability to operate both strategically and tactically
Must interact well in a team environment and display a positive customer service attitude
Working knowledge of ERP systems, preferable Oracle
