Description
Directly reporting to the VP of Manufacturing, the Operations Director will be responsible for managing and directing Fluidigm?s Reagents and Assays Manufacturing operations. This includes formulating manufacturing operations strategies in support of business goals and objectives, developing and mentoring manufacturing employees and driving continuous improvements to achieve optimal operational efficiency. He or she will set up the systems and tools to deliver quality products and services that will meet customers' expectations in the most cost-effective manner.
The Operations Director will also lead and manage the supply chain operations in South San Francisco which includes but is not limited to: purchasing, inventory management, supplier management, shipping & freight management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities include the following:
Develop and maintain operating budgets to meet or exceed operational and corporate financial goals.
Develop & execute operational strategies to support the reagents and assays business unit; put in place the manufacturing capacity, systems and infrastructure to support the projected growth, be it in-house or sub-contracted,. Drive operational efficiency and productivity to meet cost, lead-times and quality targets.
Work in close coordination with R&D and other functional groups for the effective and timely execution of new product releases into production.
Manage inbound and outbound logistics operations, including fulfillment activities, warehousing and transportation to customers, with the objective maximizing cost efficiency and fulfillment accuracy.
Lead the purchasing function in the effective selection and management of suppliers ; develop and manage business relations with key suppliers.
Work closely with internal and external parties in proactively identifying and resolving constraints in the supply chain.
Provide the leadership and mentorship for employees to achieve key performance metrics. Coach and develop direct reports towards their professional development.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum BS degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biological Science or a related discipline and 10 years of operations management experience, with at least 6 years hands-on experience in a reagents & assays manufacturing environment.
In addition, it is essential that he or she should have :
Excellent knowledge of operations, operations strategy development, long and short term capacity planning.
Strong understanding of supply chain management, with relevant working experience.
Excellent organizational, leadership, communications and analytical skills.
Proven track record in managing and meeting tight projects deadlines with a hands-on approach to getting things done.
Experience working within a Quality System such as ISO-9000 or GMP will be an asset.
Self starter whom will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment; able to readily adapt or adopt appropriate infrastructure, systems and processes to gain the required results fast.
Well versed in team dynamics and able to create synergy across functional groups.
