We are seeking an outstanding real estate and facilities
professional with 12 or more years of real estate and facilities
experience to join a fast-growing Software as a Service (SaaS) company
in Pleasanton, CA.Â This person will have a deep understanding of the
companyâs business strategy and initiatives and will use that
knowledge to develop and implement corporate real estate and workplace
strategies, policies, procedures, and programs and manage the team
that houses and hosts a dynamic, growing, multi-site, global organization.
We seek a strategic and decisive leader who will be engaged
fully, communicate openly and forge close working relationships
throughout our company. We seek a confident self-starter who can
prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities and who
enjoys working in a fast-paced and high-energy environment. We seek a
leader who can use his or her exceptional judgment and strong
interpersonal skills to be comfortable, effective and persuasive in
dealing with employees, senior management and the board of directors.
This leadership role would be a core member of Workdayâs
management structure and would network closely with several
disciplines, including Information Technology, Finance, Information
Security, Internal Audit, Legal and Human Resources.
Required Skills and Experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Bachelorâs Degree or equivalent combination of work
experience and education. MBA is desirable.
- Minimum of 12
years of real estate and facilities experience in a large,
multi-site, global corporate, institutional or governmental
environment demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility with
at least 5 years senior real estate and facilities management
experience in an international corporate environment. Experience
in high growth environment a plus.
- Demonstrated ability
to effectively manage a global real estate department, including
proven vision, leadership and critical thinking skills to bring
creative solutions and efficiently prioritize activities in a fast
- Ability to communicate effectively at
all levels of the organization.
- Possess an in-depth
understanding of the real estate industry and markets where the
company has or is likely to need a presence.
- Ability to
source and maintain vendors capable of supporting and servicing a
high growth multi-national company
- Analytical and
financial skills necessary to develop and comprehend strategic
plans and budgets. Experience in preparing and managing capital
and operational budgets. Familiarity with lease accounting
- Ability to successfully work in multi-cultural
environments, navigating varying styles and approaches to
- Detailed knowledge of real estate/leasing
practices, including an understanding of international leasing.
Ability to understand contracts, including knowledge of typical
lease terminology and facilities agreements.
- Ability to
simultaneously manage a large number of extremely complex projects
on very tight timetables. Ability to manage through ambiguity and
build a strong internal network.
- Develop and implement real estate and workspace
strategic plans, partnering with senior management and
stakeholders to align the strategy with business initiatives.

- Create effective and logical
organizational structure, providing a high level of service to the
company at the same time supporting the professional development
of team members and creating balanced workloads.
- Build a
team that will support Workdayâs core values and have the
necessary skill sets.
- Provide collaborative leadership to
staff, colleagues, and contracted parties; giving specific
direction and guidance in understanding the big picture and
- Guide real estate acquisitions and
project activity to support the real estate strategy.
- Lease management â analyze real estate costs, ensure critical
dates are tracked on a timely basis, manage rent roll, generate
required information for quarterly financial reports.
- Lead design and construction teams and functional groups to
deliver on-time, on-budget facilities, responsible for the
successful completion of all portions of fit-out projects,
including mechanical/electrical definition, cabling, and IT
- Establish guidelines for office build outs,
accommodating local needs and customs on a global basis.
- Select service providers who can support Workdayâs goals with
integrity and cost effectiveness.
- Deliver comprehensive
project budgets; monitor and manage actual costs to keep projects
on track with established budgets.
- Direct all aspects of
operations for facilities, including management and motivation of
the Workplace team.
- Provide detailed annual operating
budgets for locations in Workdayâs real estate portfolio. Create
cost analyses, establish expense-tracking systems, and execute
cost reduction and containment.
- Manage facilities costs
while maintaining service levels by analyzing the value of the
service provided, renegotiating vendor contracts where
appropriate, and ensuring that staffing is at cost effective
levels by developing metrics to understand when additions or
reductions are required.
- Guide development of space
program plans, soliciting input from department leaders and user
groups. Focus on effective space management and flexibility in

needs and objectives of business units and functions.
