Leadership externally is also critical as Calxeda continues to build a world class software eco-system. This person will advance our technology leadership vision throughout the industry's top technology influencers and establish Calxeda as a clear thought leader that not only understands enabling technologies but how to translate that technology into high value solutions. This individual will foster collaboration with partners spanning the entire value chain - including technology providers, ISVs, OEMs and end users.
At Calxeda you will utilize your established technical expertise along with your organizational leadership skills to take the software team to greater levels of innovation and execution. Your leadership will result in the architecture, design and development of critical features and capabilities that enable the Calxeda system solutions to deliver performance/watt/$$$ results that have never before been possible in the server market. You will have the responsibility to recruit and hire the industry's most outstanding talent, collaborate with the industry's most important software eco-system partners, and deliver the most innovative server capabilities in the market. Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated track record of creating innovative systems software solutions for the server market that have resulted in true technological breakthroughs with a focus in the Linux Kernel, Linux Operating Systems, Systems Management, Scalable Systems and advanced data and storage application environments. With your industry experience you will be expected to contribute to the program from day one.
Responsibilities:
--Work with an interdisciplinary team of designers, engineers, software developers, product managers and marketers to understand the company vision and business requirements and translate into world class solutions.
--Interface with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure software product deliverables result in complete customer satisfaction.
--Create a development environment that consistently delivers product on time in budget that satisfies all requirements.
--Recruit, hire, mentor and develop world class software development team.
--Provide inspiring leadership in areas of technical architecture, product design, system validation and customer support.
Education & Qualifications:
--Bachelor's/MS degree in computer science, computer engineering or related discipline w/ 10+ years of technical experience in the server market
--5+ years of leadership experience with direct responsibility for product design and delivery
-- 5+ years of software development experience, experience with Systems Management industry standards and applications preferred
--Must be technically credible to lead teams of world-class software engineers and be able to make the right design decisions and technology choices.
--Experience building and managing a team that designs and delivers complex systems that span several departments or functions.
--Experience with open source technologies, object-oriented design, and agile development methodologies.
--Ability to work with senior management to influence the engineering and business direction of the organization.
--Experience working directly with hardware development teams in defining systems architecture in a collaborative and successful environment
--Experience leading small and large organizations (10 - 50+ people)
--Strong organizational planning and development, business judgment, technical leadership, and communication skills
--Track record of end user engagement, requirements definition and customer delivery
--Experience in industry standards setting organizations and open community environments
--Ability to lead multiple simultaneous product development efforts
--Outstanding communication skills - both verbal and written
--Track record of recruiting, hiring and developing outstanding software engineering teams
