Summary
Leads a team of software engineers and quality assurance that design and develop
software products. The Director of SW Engineering will be responsible for the delivery of high quality products. He/She will work closely with the Program Manager to insure that the projects are scheduled, tracked and delivered on time and within budget. All products must meet the rigor required for any application that will run in a customer environment. Applications must be documented, developed to software engineering standards and practices, and scalable to support a large number of users. The development methodology is agile-based in that it should follow iterative development processes to enable development to be done quickly with the ability to adapt to market/requirements changes easily. The Director of SW Engineering will define best-practices for the team to adhere to.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following is a list of general job responsibilities for the Director, Technology position. This list is not all-inclusive and may be broadened or changed to meet changing business needs.
?Responsible for designing, developing, testing and delivering high quality, scalable product level applications.
?Hands on developer and an active participant in code reviews, design meetings, etc
?Works with the Program Manager to size, scope and schedule projects.
?Responsible for development and maintenance of PlayNetwork?s proprietary systems.
?Aligns technology needs with business strategy through the strategic planning process.
?Regularly interacts with senior management or executives on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers.
?Establishes operational objectives, processes and work plans, and delegates assignments to development team.
?Writes product requirement documents, implements and tracks development timelines, and negotiates feature sets with the development leads and product teams.
?Works with the senior leadership team to ensure that investments in technology create value to the organization.
?Establishes departmental budget and assures adherence to project budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.
?Ensures that architectures and applications can be applied efficiently to new products with minimal re-engineering or customization.
?Manages third-party vendor and consulting relationships.
?Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the team. Must build a development culture that is engaged, acts with conviction, and is highly motivated.
?Reviews the team?s objectives to determine success of operation.
?Leads process improvements in the development lifecycle.
Experience/Education/Certifications
?BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related discipline; post graduate education desired
?Prior experience working in a leadership role and a minimum of 10 years experience in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of state-of-the-art hardware and software networks, with at least 5 years in people management.
?Proven ability to think strategically, create and deliver presentations and high-level business case justifications
?Strong track record of building high performance teams through strong hiring practices and dedication to performance management, training and retention initiatives; the ability to lead, mentor and empower teams
?Excellent verbal and written communications skills
?Ability to collaborate with management peers inside and outside technology
?Prior experience managing global third-party vendor/consulting relationships
?Has a strong sense of the external environment, the competitive landscape and leading-edge technology to ensure the implementation of the appropriate technical architectures and solutions
Preferred Development/Programming Knowledge and Skills
?Strong desire and aptitude to learn new technologies
?Technologist at heart who keeps up to date with new technology trends, tools, applications, etc
?5+ years of product development experience. Experience/expertise in objective C, C++, Java, Python, and JavaScript for various platforms (PC, mobile, servers), as well as technologies such as cloud computing, NoSQL, MQ, and .Net
?Solid design experience using OOP or similar
?Familiar with software development life cycles, source control, and build/release procedures.
?Comfortable in Windows Server/2000/XP and Linux environments (kernel configuration, installation and boot-up)
?Programming experience in high-volume/low-latency/high performance processing.
?Programming experience with multi-threading processing & TCP/IP
?Familiar with open source technologies
Bonus Skills
?Experience with Web Services, SOAP, HTTP, WFC, MSMQ
?Experience with Encryption
?Experience with relational databases (SQLite, MS SQL)
?Experience with hardware features such as CPU/memory architectures, DMA engines, PCI, Ethernet, USB, IEEE-1394, RS-232, etc.
