Our product provides enterprise-marketing teams with crucial data that helps maximize their online marketing programs. It's a 24/7/365 application that runs off of more than 150 EC2 machines and pulls in more than 4TB of new information each week. To handle this production environment we have built a world class Tech Ops Team and use the best technologies.We are looking for a Director, Tech Ops to lead this team and manage our production environment. This year we are globalizing our business. We're adding multiple data centers, adding 24/7 ops requirements, and migrating to a rich mash-up of services in an SOA. We follow continuous deployment practices and want to keep getting better.
This is a very senior role and will play a key part in realizing our goals in 2013 and beyond.
What you will do:
Own the entire production environment including all AWS, Hadoop clusters and Thrift Services
Meet system SLAs and manage all corporate and client security requirements
Manage an existing team of four engineers. Mentor and train any new team members
Provide a short team and long term vision for scaling out the production environment
Provide high-level expertise in forecasting and planning discussions. Advise and push back as needed
Act as the system evangelist for internal and external stakeholders. Educate Conductors and clients on production decisions, problems and changes
Actively participate in the upstream design process
What you need to know:
Prior experience managing and hiring a high performing team
Expert level experience with Amazon Web Services, Hadoop, Linux/Unix, and Apache web services projects
You should have experience migrating, deploying, and monitoring a SOA
We use Thrift Zookeeper to auto scale our services deployments so experience with this particular technology is key
Prior experience managing a 24/7/365 production environment is a must.
Experience with monitoring software like Ganglia and Graphite is desired
You should be able to provide clear and concise opinions about the use of one technology over another and how this decision will affect different areas of the technology stack
You should have strong opinions on how complex systems fail and how to anticipate their failure
Prior employment as a software or network engineer is desired
