Help supervise and lead a team of dispatch personnel in a 24/7 transit operation that provides
scheduled bus service to/from LAX and the Van Nuys and Union Station Flyaway terminals. Oversee
the daily scheduling and dispatching of bus operators as well as customer services including bus pass
and ticket sales, lost and found and passenger information. Work effectively with other members of the
Bauer?s team, including road supervisors, maintenance, porters and management to ensure that daily
activities are carried out in a way that ensures delivery of safe and reliable bus service.
Examples of duties:
Collaborate with other managers or staff members to formulate and implement policies,
procedures, goals, or objectives.
Implement schedule and policy changes.
Monitor operations to ensure that staff complies with administrative policies and procedures,
safety rules and government regulations.
Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining
them over time.
Using computers to enter data, share and process information using MS Word and Excel.
Advise personnel about traffic problems, such as construction areas, accidents, congestion,
weather conditions, or other hazards.
Confer with customers or supervising personnel to address questions, problems, or requests for
service or equipment.
Monitor personnel and or locations and utilization to coordinate service and schedules.
Schedule or dispatch staff, buses to appropriate locations, using radios or telephones.
Prepare daily/weekly driver schedules.
Prepare daily/weekly dispatcher schedules.
Record and maintain files of operators, routes covered.
Order supplies or equipment and issue them to personnel.
Ensure timely and efficient movement of buses, according to the schedules.
The ideal candidate will possess the following experience:
One or more years in a supervisory role in a transportation operation
Prior experience in dispatch operations
Experience with customer service operations involving fares, ticket sales and/or accounting of
passes and/or receipts.
Skills and Qualifications:
Communication ? must have excellent written and oral communication
skills and an ability to convey information effectively to bus operators,
management, customers and co-workers.
Active Listening ? ability to give full attention to what other people are
saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions
as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and
weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to
Leadership - Job requires a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer
opinions and direction.
Attention to Detail - Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in
completing work tasks.
Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related
Commercial driver?s license Class A or B with passenger endorsement preferred (not required)
Salary Information: Depending on qualifications, hiring range will be $1,346 to $1,538 per bi-weekly
pay period (approx. $35k to $40k/year).
Work location and hours: Primary work location is at the Van Nuys Flyaway, 7610 Woodley Avenue,
Van Nuys, CA; alternate work location is at Union Station. Hours will vary and some field work may be
necessary at times.
