About the Job
As a member of the Nexant Grid Management group, this position is responsible for providing professional engineering services and support in the planning, operation and analysis of customer?s electric distribution facilities. They will schedule and coordinate major segments of complex distribution system reliability and capacity projects to meet our customer?s cost and time objectives as well as the review and document the compliance with requirements and expectations. This role will have knowledge and experience in electric utility engineering principles, practices, and theories toward the completion of assignments involving a substantial degree of complexity. They will have experience with electrical system analysis software to perform power flow and short circuit analysis. They will support and share their knowledge with other Nexant staff and support other projects when needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide professional engineering services and support in the planning, operation, maintenance, and analysis of customer systems. Although this position is focused on distribution systems, the ability to plan and analyze transmission systems is desired.
Modeling of power systems to identify system impacts of forecasted load increases and Volt/Var performance.
Develop capacity and reliability project plans for electric transmission and distribution infrastructure with appropriate documentation and justification.
Analyze compliance with planning, operation and maintenance standards and requirements
Coordinate complex projects utilizing project management principles to achieve successful project results
Interpret and/or modify customer?s standards and guidelines for recommendation for improvement of existing processes and procedures
Identify potential areas of weakness with assigned work, and initiate corrective action
Ensure that problem solutions are tailored to the customer?s business environment
Write professional quality proposals and reports
Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on electric distribution or comparable
5-7 years of experience with a focus on distribution system planning and operations in the utility industry
Prior experience with deployment or operation of distribution automation equipment, distribution management systems, outage management systems, asset management systems, SCADA, smart grid technologies and tools and control systems
Experience in planning software is a plus (PSSE, CYME, ETAP, Wonderware, etc.)
Understanding of steady-state power system analysis
Computer skills including Microsoft Office
Demonstrated communication skills (written and verbal)
Willingness to learn and operate in a strong team environment
Ability to work within schedules and deadlines
Internal and external client support
Must be willing to travel approximately 30% of the time
